How to find info about a website?

Quick question: How can I find out how long a website has been running for? As much info about the site as possible really.
I recall people warning about scams by showing that the website is like a week old but I have no idea where to get that info.

You can use Whois to find when it was created, but that doesn't say how long the site has been active - the domain name may have been registered years ago, but the site only rolled out yesterday.
