hey guys ...

my dt125x was running really bad when i 1st got it. Sad loads power at top end and the bike would fly Very Happy ... but felt like i was killing the engine (which i did eventually riding it like this! Shocked ). and no power at bottom end or mid-range revs for pulling away at traffic lights etc. Evil or Very Mad

anyways ... talked to a guy on here called element an a guy on ebay who was selling dt125 parts ... and between them an my local bike workshop we fixed it and she is running sweet as an american sugared donut!!!.

solution (in case its of any help to anyone on here Karma )

1. new piston and ring 1st coz the top ring had melted solid into the old piston causing backfiring and misfiring and hardly any power.

2. took off the nice looking DEP front pipe. replaced with a yamaha dt125 pipe from 1993 which had no restriction in it then.

3. took off DEP rear can and replaced with a Fresco end can which has similiar air properties to the original yamaha exhaust but a much nicer note.

4. unpinned and re-connected the powervalve and made sure it opens /closes ok which it does!.

result - a dt125x supermoto with decent pulling away power and mid-range poke. so iv lost a bit of top end, but then this isnt a bike i ride on motorways for long distances at 80mph (thats one of the factors that blew up the engine!) .... im really happy with its performance now.

so much for DEP pipes - they look nice but what a load of trouble i had with mine and yet folks/shops/places that supply them say u just bolt it on and dont need to do anything else!. yeah and then your bike runs really bad and mine ended up needing a new piston and rings!
