Going tomorow with some mates, a field near upminster/essex.

Never been before, any tips?

Best to charge while laying suppressing fire or sneak around?

So long as your group is a mixture of gung-ho heroes and strategic snipers, you should be fine.

I'm so pleased I went, even though I fucked up my ankles.
Its a great day out Cool Thumbs Up

You can't really prepare for it (well, I don't think anyway).

When you're there, it kinda feels like you should stay still under cover for as long as possible, but if the other team are decent its actually better to keep moving. And its boring sitting behind an upturned pallet getting splattered with ricochets!

Think strategically and pick out the weaker members of their team and just annihilate them and hope the rest of your team are adequate.

Keep an eye on the boundary ropes.

When you are executing a daring arnie commando style run and the adrenaline is pumping, they can clothesline you quicker and inflict more pain than any of those paintballs. Thumbs Up

Don't challenge a marshall to a one-on-one at the end of the day, I still have a bruise on my arm about four months later from it. The motherfucker hit me about literally 50-60 times in ten seconds, had like a double-trigger gun and didn't tell me.

I got owned.

Wear combat boots.

I was wearing my full combat gear, RAF issue ones...

Everyone else was in trainers, keeping out of the puddles.

Its better when you have nothing to stop you.

Also, wear your bike gloves, they bloody hurt when you get shot in the fingers.

best to keep moving and be brave tbh

if your scared on the field you are pretty much useless. it does hurt, more so at close range, but if your scared of a bit of pain you shouldnt be there in the first place Wink

I used to do walkons, bring your own gun etc, and play with speedballers etc, if you sit you get shot etc

heres what happens at 7 feet when someone uses a gun that hasnt been chrono'ed (i.e make sure its firing under 280feet per secon muzzle vel)

for the record, i had just pulled the flag down and won the game, then a fucking retard decides to put 7 into my back/head. these 2 bled as his gun was way over the allowed 280fps

but yeh, you will love it man and have a great time

oh and as for clothing etc to wear, when i play i wear a t shirt and an old pair of trousers i bought for my mountain biking days, plus my mask of course, no gloves or fook all Razz

Play speedball regularly at UCZ near Trago Mills in the South West, the 'allowed' ball velocity is 300 fps or 180 mph in real money. It's scary fast, as a marshall, please listen when they say keep your goggles on, you'll be blinded if one hits your eye, no matter how sweaty you get or how steamed up the mask becomes, just keep it the fuck on, nothing gets on our tits more than that. I work at Skirmish in Exeter and we operate a 10 foot rule.

If bacon was playing speedball (didn't read your post properly) then there's no rule on closeness and it gets fucking painful as you can tell. I played in the 'Stag hunt' game today as I wasn't working, the groom to be and best man hide out and their mates walk out a minute later with their guns not ready and the stag and best man shoot them to shit to give themselves a head start, so anyway, I joined in with my gun that fires at 17 bps, I counted 36 little red/black/blue circles on his back...woops Laughing

Anyway, massive deviation aside, goggles on at all times and try not to overkill e.g. mate walks out with his gun/hand up as he's been shot once doesn't mean you can empty your hopper at him Razz

Most of all, enjoy it dude, the marshalls all want you there to have a laugh and a good time Thumbs Up

hey, thinking about it i think your right, the limit is 300fps, iv not been in about a year, but either way marshalls gave the lad a bollocking for being a penis shooting me after the game was already won by me and for having his gun over the limit

nah i wasnt speedballing then, that was just a walk on

edit: i used to play at skirmish bristol (portishead) and had a blast or 2 at skirmish warminster

So you did punch him in his geeky face? Or was it an undercover mate?

Best advice to give is if you catch one of your mates doing silent hand signals and putting paint on his face, make sure you shoot him in the back of the head at point blank Thumbs Up

Other than that just remember its a bit of a laugh and enjoy yourself, its not 'nam Laughing

Yep, always have some paintballs left in your gun at the end, or you can't (properly) retaliate when people decide to savage you Crying or Very sad

Laughing

Cheeky sods

My trick when sniping over cover (I seemed to alternate between suicide charging and attempting to remain inconspicuous and snipe) was to literally throw both my legs out from under me whenever someone clocked me a started firing. Saved me twice, and make me feel all hardcore commando Laughing

... then I got owned by a midget with a ridiculously good gun the moment I tried to push forward. Damn near broke my finger.

A good day was had by all,

They do hurt a bit but only for a few seconds.

In the end it was the Delta Force park we went to and the guys there were cool, the owner seemed to recognise me from the ace cafe or dick turpin so was cool when 3 of the people we booked dident show, gave us their paintballs.

Thing is me and my mate were really trigger happy so we werre getting through about 200-250 per round, and at the prices they charge on sight the money only lasted 3 games (2 halves of each), but we were knackered by that time anyway.

Did the Vietnam Villiage, London Busses/VIP, and the castle/fort areas, the last two were the best but also the most paintballs were used there.

I was more of a sniper/flanker than my mate who did the old suicide charge nearly every game (he has the marks like that pic to prove it too). Couple of great moments were headshotting people across the field who had been plinking at me for a while. Getting about 3 slow movers runing across open ground in front of me... thats a good feeling unloading on them Razz

Also picture a double decker london bus, i was on the top floor sniping covering our VIP and all i heard was "THEYRE FLANKING TO THE RIGHT" and then a minute later 3 guns open up from downstairs on the bus, so i sneak down the stairs, hide in the stairwell, see paintballs flying across, pop out and tag 3 of the bastards shooting through the back window of our bus. they dident expect that Wink.

Oh and the castle map when we wrre attacking, Me and some random kid formed a really good impromtu 2 man sniper team. moving bits of tree out they way for each other in the bog, giving legs up to climb into this cliff thing, covering fire for each other to move. was well good. The best bit had to be crawling prone through long grass to apprach the castle, and i can see 4 of them on my side of the castle shooting at teammates 90 degrees to my left, so not looking my way, pop up, first shot hits the guy looking my way, he ducks for cover, and then i procede to light up all three of them. very satisfactory, on the plus side after that game i was told i made a small girl cry Wink WIN.

Paintball does indeed kick ass, but the masks they give you are shit, i mean when dispatching i barely took off my lids, and i still wear them an inordinate amount of time (my baldness goes to show) but those masks are sweaty/foggy and generally shit for seeing out of. Dont get it twisted i got shot SPLAT in the face a few times and was glad of wearing one then but walking between fields and stuff bloody horrible. I imagine its like going gokarting without your own lid, their ones are shit but your ones are good.

Me and my mate hated the full face ones so much we went for the half face ones, and were almost the only ones using it.

Oh and i was thankfull of the reverse cap trick when i got shot in the back of the head by an idiot teammate at close range, the cap stopped that one hurting.

So we will be going back again but considering online 2000 paintballs seem to be about 30 quid and on site they sell the same for 120 quid, i think a smuggling operation is in order.

buy yourself a mask, they dont cost much, i used to have a dye, dont bother, load of shite and cost me over £60, steamed up all the time

Sold it on ebay and bought a Vforce profiler, Vforce use excellent lenses, cost me £50 i think, and its never steamed up even on the hottest mugiest of days Thumbs Up makes a world of difference to your game when you arent worrying about your vision every 2 seconds

glad you enjoyed it bud

I've been a few times and really should go again one day. The only time I got hurt was when a pellet skimmed my knuckles and broke up as it did so, cut all four knuckles open. Still, I bleed every time I even think of working on the bike, so it's not really surprising Mr. Green

I was also criticised for shooting two of my team mates in the final game, the last time I went, we were all soaked and I couldn't tell if they were friendly or not, so I made a decision as we needed to clear the base to win. Apparently killing two of your team mates to win the match was not considered team play. I didn't care, we f***ing won Twisted Evil

Cheers

Grim

Grim you did the right thing, on the very first game we played in the vietnam villiage i was sweeping up the right hand side, and on the next piece of cover ahead of me i see some guy with his back to me but i couldent tell which team he was on, so i dident fire had a perfect shot of the back of his head too, he then turned around and gave me the worst hits of the day on my knee and leg.

With retrospect i should have shot first asked questions later...

Bacon can you get like a fogcity visor insert type thing for paintball masks? because that for me was the downside of the whole experience, the masks.
