Do you give other bikers "the nod" ?

Riding an Aprilia RS125 for a year, I found that other super sport bikers rarely let on but when I took the L plates off for a few month (stupid I know) I got the nod from most of them.

Now I have a ZX6R, I find myself being ignorant to the L plate warriors myself and not letting onto them.

Also, different class bikers don't seem to give you the nod back. i.e. people on choppers and harley type bikes rarely do it back.

Mostly other sports bikers will but some don't bat an eyelid.

Whilst this has been done to death, I do have something new to add to the discussion as I've changed my style lately.

I used to nod to all riders of powered two wheelers, learners included.

Now I only nod if it's convenient, if I think I'll get a response, and if it's a bike.

I'll still nod to learners, but not ones on 'peds, though there are a couple of kids who ride up and down the A38 south of Gloucester on mopeds, in all weathers and boy have they got some balls, so I'll nod to those individuals but not in general.

i have started saluting to some bikers with my left hand if I'm in a goofy mood.

I don't know where this started. Does anyone else do this or have seen anyone else do this?

I think it started from me waving rapidly at some guy on a cruiser who chose not to wave back at me and decided I needed something more obvious than a nod.

tbh, I've only done it a few times. Give it a shot and see if you get any "wtf" looks.

It can't be a casual cool thing. Over the top movements is where it's at.

I was on the way to work yesterday and a moped rider nodded very enthusiasticly towards me and I didn't nod back but I should have done because when I was on a ped I always liked getting a response.

I will nod at everyone who nods at me, and anything but peds and old dudes on c90's. (from now on)

Left handed salute from me, it's half way between a wave and a salute, really. A single, sharp, precise wave with the left hand. In my opinion much cooler than a gay little sideways nod.

I have seen a few people who do that and literally do a doofy wave to you as if it's your mum.

Sorry if it's been done a million times, I've only just started posting on here!

I have seen a few over enthusiastic head twitches like they're on steds or something and got a nervous tick.

Oh no, not nodding again, my preferred method of acknowledgement is to stop, dismount and bow like a regency dandy, I don't know whether my gesture is appreciated or not, because when I straighten up, the other bike rider has usually fecked off up the road

being a learner i started nodding on my first ride out, feels good to get a nod back from a 'proper biker'. I'm not sure if its just me on this one but if i nod and don't get a nod back i tend to think 'Twat!' I know it shouldn't really bother me but it does!

Also (sorry to change the subject slightly) but whats the deal with women drivers and old drivers? Am i just invisible to these people Evil or Very Mad ? i was just riding down a main road earlier today and this old woman just pulled out inches in front of me so i had to do quite a major swerve to miss her, and she just carried on. not even a backward glance to check i hadn't gone under her wheels or anything, so i hit the stupidly quiet horn on my bike which made no difference whatsoever so i overtook her at a perfectly legal space and just slowed right down as if no-one was behind me. Laughing

Sorry again to ramble a bit but i saw no need to start another thread just for that lol

When I nod and get a response it actually makes me fell there are people there that actually do like me. Lol. No man seriously, its the same kinda thing as when I had my Mini (classic) when you flash your lights at another Mini (classic) it's just cool.

I think I might start doing that.

Ah, the continental 'nod'. I did rather enjoy pulling a few, immature, Hitler salutes whilst in Germany in response to their wave. Ho ho.

In Australia (have I mentioned that I lived there recently?) nodding happens a lot less. In fact very few people do it, and I got out of the habit of it. I have not got back into the habit over here.

I nod to the guys I see everyday on the commute, but other than that I don't bother.

Tbh I'm a bit of an anti social bugger, and generally think most people are annoying. Nodding to these people seems hypocritcial, so I've kinda stopped.

I'll return a nod if offered. Maybe.

Europe have it made, none of this shitty nodding business.

Me and my mate, whilst at around 90pmh, fully loaded up with touring gear, stood on our pegs, did a "mexican wave with outstretched arms" all to make sure at the end of the individual "wave" your hand turns into a gun, two fingers sticking out and the rest clenched.

Needless to say, the europeans did not like us.

Especially when I started standing up and "quick-drawing" my "guns" to oncoming riders.

See paint diagram.

I was going to start adding a salute to my arsenal of ways to signal to other bikes.

Had a guy give me a 'peace' sign the other day, which I thought was pretty cool (and yes, before you ask, I am sure it was a peace sign and not two fingers up at me. Bastards).

When other bikes overtake me (I like to chill out most of the time) they normally give a little wave to say thanks, which is nice.

I'll nod at anyone who nods at me, but most of the time I nod at people first, they aren;t returned, and I feel like my poo hole has been violated a little, so I tend not to initiate them.

I didn't notice much difference between me losing the L plates and the amount of people who nod back, most seem to not be arsed these days.
