Graphics cards...??

Hi, my pc has an amd Athlon 64 4400+ cpu, 2 gig of ram and integrated geforce 6200 graphics.
Can anyone recomend a graphics card (as cheap as pos) so i can play games a bit more smoothly?
I know i need a pci one, but other than that i know nothing Laughing

Given your CPU and Mainboard combo I'm assuming you mean PCI-Express right?

Something along the lines of

should give you a pretty substantial boost over your onboard graphics.

If in doubt, any reasonably recent GDDR3 based graphics card will be a big step up, don't be tempted by cheap cards with huge amounts of DDR or DDR2 memory as they are slow and pointless.

If you can stretch to it, the cheapest proper gaming graphics card would still be the 8800GT imho, you can find them for 100 quid if you dig around, be sure your PSU is up to it first though Thumbs Up

I was going to suggest a 4670 too, they get good reviews and perform well for their low cost, best of the budget cards really. My new comp has one in, looked better than the nVidia equivalents. Not played many games yet but tried Crysis and it runs lovely, i'm pretty behind though so no idea what games are like these days, last thing I played was Half-Life 2 in 2004.

I recommend the 4670 aswell! Aria were doing them at £46 the other week!

Just an update, i went with you guys and just got a 4670.
I can now enjoy great games in all their glory, so a big Thumbs Up

I've got an 8800GT and it works sound with all games I've tried so far..ok the old crysis plays faster mid settings (2 yr old intel quad core E6600 running 4 gig of ram on an asus sli mobo) but would say that yes the 4760 should do even better on the bang per $ so glad to hear that it does what you wanted it to........now what score do you get on 3D mark 06???????? give it a try and get back to us..as I'd be interested to know!
