Rear tyre was getting down to legal limit, so decided to 'finish it off'
You will see my first attempt was somewhat of a fail!!! It was OK in 1st, but in 2nd (and with a bit of heat) there was more grip from the rear than the front could handle/hold it back and the front just skipped down the road fully locked - even with my weight over the tank!! ... so I re-located and used a 'chock' under the front wheel!! ... Now that was a bit more like it ... looks like I got 4th (or even 5th??) was used in the end, and look at the resulting 'marbles', smoke and melt!!
I can still smell that acrid tyre smoke smell!!! Anyway, I can put my new tyre on now!
I know its very childish, but it'd have been rude not to right?!!?

Anyone else feel the need to 'finish' a tyre in this fashion?!!? First time I have ever got round to doing it!! Don't think it is too good for the environment mind!! ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity. |

Erm, you didn't actually finish it off .
Once you've got it going, clutchless shift up at quite high rpm, then keep it near the redline in top - add weight back on it for quicker and thicker smoke.
Did it just down the road a while ago; the people in the petrol station a bit further down got a bit 'concerned' as their forecourt filled with smoke. Did manage to dig a nice hole in the concrete though and to my amazement another biker actually stopped to ask if I needed a hand while pushing it back "I seem to have got a puncture, I nonchalantly explain away the tyre split into two; but not to worry as I live round the corner, ta".
Anyway, for finishing off tyres to start with rolling burnouts/doughnuts are much more fun - but I do find you need to intersperse with some wheelies to keep them cool. |

Some good efforts there boyz!!!
As for my tyre, the rear was a Racetech x-track tyre, the front is just a normal road tyre ... so the rear simply produces so much more grip than the front - especially when the rear is hot, so the front just skipped along ...
I wasn't going to do it till it went pop as for a starter I needed to ride it back home - and didn't want to damage rim etc!! ... secondly I think I had caused enough noise and air pollution as it was .... thirdly I couldn't breathe due to the acrid smoke as it was!!
I did want to shift gears whilst spinning, but it was desperately wanting to jump over the small chock (bit of broken off wood/log) as it was, so didn't want to angle the bike to facilitate the gear shift or take my foot off the ground in case it bolted for freedom!!!
Oh and according to some 12 year old on Youtube, "your bike sounds phat too"
