Absolute joke: 24 year old, 4 years ncd, no crashes, no convictions, garaged, tpft, on a bmw 318ti = £1184.64

I'm sure I've built up a complex thinking that all insurance companies just seem to screw me over and nobody else. Everyone I speak to says get on compare the market and are getting quotes for like £200 fully comp - with in some cases worse cred's. I've previously paid £1200 tpft on a 350z, £1600 on a clio williams, £2100 tpft on a vx220, yet now I've got a 'sensible' car I'd have thought I'd be given a sensible insurance quote.. how wrong was I.

I do have a Liverpool postcode which you'd probably think is just asking to be screwed - but I've also run a quote off using my parents address in Yorkshire which was only slightly less.

Thing is, my motorbike insurance is quite reasonable - £400 on an R1.

It's like they have a database somewhere of people they know who have paid ridiculous amounts for insurance in the past and so are presumably gullible to extortionate quotes.

Try the other comparison sites for more brokers and insurers :-

try directline, they don't use compare sites and got me £250 less on my Tigra 1.4 16v (i'm 21 no no-claims) fully comp £550. confused/compare the market were 750 at the lowest.

Slightly better with direct line: £886.20 - but still way off what I'd expect Sad

Think it was them that when it took me to the actual insurance company sites, the quotes came out £200 more!

I'm assuming that with that level of money to throw around on insurance you have a fairly decently paid job and are not a student? It's a well known fact that the type of job you have severely affects your premium (with students being pretty risky historically). There is a page on the link that Shaggy put up which lets you try different ways to phrase what you do for a job that may be able to lower things for you a bit...Job Picker

I have to say that I've found them very useful - when I was doing contents and building insurance it came out with competitive quotes - cheaper than quotes I was getting from high street lenders!

I'm not a student, I couldn't imagine what the quotes would be if I was. I'm a web developer which is quite a risk free profession I'd have thought.

Will check out the link thanks.

Insurance Group:20

Hardly defines sensible

Your 350z is only 18/19
Vx 220 is 16.....

So you are going to be paying more.....

Perhaps you need to look at some other cars that have lower groups.

Even so its not Alexanders fault the quotes are so high.... All they do is pass the details on to the ins co's who then quote back.

Just used it myself for quotes on my car... Lowest £167 and i then went via Quidco and got a extra £50 cash back..... Smile
So i have paid £117 FC on a 08 car Smile

That's quite funny, the car I deem to be most sensible is in a higher insurance group than anything else I've owned!

I still blame Alexander, getting insurance isn't as 'simples' as I thought.. Smile

Eh, google says group 12?
Only insurance group 20 3 series is the M3... though other stuff like the 650i unsuprisingly comes out as group 20 too.

Of course, different companies do use different classifications, etc.

Oh and I thought the 318ti only came in 'compact' not coupe?

Obviously you weren't wearing your cravat at the time.

You probably would have got a better quote if you looked suave.

Ouch Shocked. You need to get ringing around. None of the comparison websites have ever come up with decent quotes for me, on cars anyway (www.thebikeinsurer.co.uk usually comes up trumps for bikes).

Privilege might be worth a try. I'm also 24, 7 NCB, 1 previous ban, 9 points, fully comp, live in Stoke. I had the renewal for my '04 330 cabrio (group 18) for £740 odd quid.

Thats very bad, I was looking at getting a 318ti compact in January and was getting quotes of 1000-1300 FC and that was when i was 19 with only 1 years no claims and license for a year.

Could try tescocompare too. I'd recommend ringing around too as well, you can haggle a fair bit then.
