but two weeks ago i got home from a 11 000km, 6 month road trip road india on my RE bullet.

Taked up in the Indian Himalayas.

Anyway riding a bullet for the last 6 months has made my japanese bike feel boring and kind of now got a slight adiction to old british metal and am looking for a someone to recommend me a good royal enfield forum as i'm looking to get another.

I'll write up a report in the next week or so and post it on here.

Was at my local Enfield dealer a few weeks back - it's a shame what they've done to the Bullet now. Fuel injection? Removed the kick start? It was bad enough when they put the P.A.V. on it, but at least that was easily junked.

I'm just back from a 600-odd mile (tiny compared to yours I know) trip round the west coast of Scotland on my 500 and it had to be cut short because the centre-stand shook it's self free of a couple of bolts and now won't stand up straight! Did you have to do all of the maintenance yourself on the trip or did you get a sorta sherpa type character to do it for you?

As regards to forums, you ain't gona find one quite like this - all too polite for their own good for the most part! But the forum on the American distributor's website is full of useful info (esp considering the guys who work on/sell the bikes regularly post there).

Just a bit of insider knowledge, I've been working on the new royal enfields recently replacing the gear boxes (as they eat themselves if the bike is run for too long). The bikes are a pile of shite and I'd really advise against buying one. I was working a bike earlier that had done 1000 miles and the frame is already rusting as is parts of the engine. The engines are made of the cheapest possible metal which means the engines are very very weak.

There are many design faults that I have picked up on, the worst of all being the fact that the frames are all vaguely welded on so you can get a difference of about 17mm in the position of footrests between bikes. This also means that the exhausts never fit properly causing the bolts to sheer off just due to the sheer stress they are under.

The electronics are over complex and are poor in design, cheap copper and thin wires means its very very easy to brake a cable causing the bike to fail due to the electronics system.

I've also noted on a few of them that if you turn the steering lock to full right the throttle cable engages making the bike accelerate, you can sort if out to an extent but its very easy to cause the problem again.

So yeah I'd really advise you against buying one, they are done on the cheap and it really shows.

Also isn't the 350 model the one that has about 5 neutrals? Must have been entertaining to ride for 6 months with that .

Hey man. Good to see someone having fun out there! Am going to India in September with similar intentions of buying an enfield and travelling round northern india though I will be parked up for 3-6months in Dharamsala.

Where abouts are you in the UK? I'm friendly with a local Enfield dealer (Steve from Midlands Enfield, Shrewsbury). I'd agree on the new bikes, build quality is always something you have to live with on these bikes, but they do certainly have character!

Are you going to do a write up of sorts? Be good to hear your stories and any useful advice you can offer!

Wait till end of season I'm sure you can get a cheap 2nd hand one. Most only have a few thousand miles on as a lot of old folks buy them to relive their teens
