Does anyone know about these wonderful contraptions? Cos mine is pissing me off.

I am on O2 on a U900 Samsung, it's about 4 months old, yesterday it all of a sudden stops working, it states there is network coverage by 02 and there is reception etc, I try to call out and it says 'Emergency calls only', I cant text nor call. I cant even request for my balance, just says 'Rejected by network'.

My SIM works in other phones and I have turned it off and on to no success as advised off a Google search

One thing that does spring up, but am unsure if it is possible. I got the phone off my GF as she did not like it so stuck to her old one. She lost her old one and claimed for a new one, now can phone companies lock a phone even if the SIM is different?

Yes, they can. I'd say the phone has been barred.

**edit Google for IMEI barred for more info.

That sounds about right then, looks like it's been blocked. Down the market with me to see some dodgy git to get it unlocked.

Thanks dude! Thumbs Up Karma

As far as I am aware, the IMEI cannot be unblocked. With some phones you could spoof a different number however.

Yeah, just been reading this on Google searches, it looks like it's a lost cause. Sad

Time to buy a new phone then.

Thanks guys!

Sometimes the imei can be flashed, but on the newer phones the imei is stored in a one-time programmable memory fashion, which is obviously set at the factory, so by and large all hope is lost At that point, I do believe there is even a way around this, but the pie e of kit you need costs arou d £90, and you have to be pretty tasty with mobile phone programming, and with no gurantees it's really not worth spending the money to attempt. This is the reason I have a 3 week old Sony cybershot collecting dust on a shelf.

Lot's of programme-y guys have software on their laptops to 'edit' and IMEI number so it works, could anyone linky in this bit about this 1 time stored memory job? I wanna check this out cos it's new to me and tbh, i'm no stranger to the concept.

I'm no expert but I'd presume it's an EPROM of some description.

Bah, cut off the fancy phone and get a better dealio.
For 15 bucks a month on a Nokia E63 (okay it's no 5800 but it's a fricking phone.) unlimited internet, 125 any network minutes, unlimited texts, and unlimited three to three minutes.

I don't have the links stored, but trawl through the relevant forums and the internet and you'll become familiar enough. It's referred to as OTP memory.

Eventually I'm sure it will be bypassable commonly, but for now you've no hope......believe me I've spent far too many hours trying to prove otherwise.

Carphone warehouse, £4.95 for a Samsung E1100 on talk mobile, plus a compulsary tenner for credit, it makes calls and doesn't break.
