Hi all

New to the site, so apologies if this post is in the wrong place etc, but thought it would be a good place to start...

I've got a 2000 R1 in Blue with the Rossi GO!!!!! decals, sprayed by Dream Machine in 04/05 by the previous owner.

The problem is the paint work is bubbling and starting to flake, for £850 job I don't think this is acceptable. I've spoken to the guys at our garage, and they suggested giving Dream Machine a call and give them a chance to rectify the problem?

Please let me know your thoughts....
Thanks
x

Eh?

You're questioning whether to phone the company that messed up the job in the first place? Bit of a no brainer I would have thought.

Might be difficult to prove without a receipt of the work done - but what have you got to loose? The price of a phone call?

RE receipt, right the bike was customised by a mechanic at a garage I bought it from inc the paint job. I've got the receipt from the garage clearly stating "complete respray in wheels by Dream Machine".

Forgive me for asking, if it was in the last 12 months I would be on the phone in an instant, but I just wanted to know if 4 years there was any chance of them actually sorting it out?

I've got no issue asking the question or making the calls, just good to hear thoughts on the matter...

They might do something, they could maybe take a look and either decide it was a crap job and fix it for free or agree to meet you half way with the cost to put it right. Or they could tell you where to go (not very good customer service though). £850 sounds a bit dear though but depends how long the spray shop reckons it will take to do it.

To be honest I don't think people expect even a manufacturer finish to be guaranteed for 4/5 years, because it's longevity is largely down to the user.
The place that sprayed it will say it is likely that it hasn't been treated properly by you/previous owner and that is why it's flaking off, but without a guarantee on the paint job they have absolutely no obligation. Did you notice the bubbling after treating with a certain brand of cleaner?
By all means call dream machines anyway to at least give it a shot, but don't get your hopes up as the world is full of arseholes, and most of these arseholes run a business of some description.
On the bright side, you've now got an excuse to rid your poor bike of that tacky Rossi rep paintjob. Wink Just try find somewhere doing it for a reasonable price or DIY if you trust yourself.

I think the chances are slim at best, Ring them by all means but don't expect to be given the time of day over it. Karma It was a few years back.

I'd definitely try givng them a ring, however I consider dream machine to have a rather questionable reputation.
Generally the stuff they do for punters isn't too bad, but the jobs they do for garages does tend to be a bit dodgy in my experience.

A company that has this sort of double-standards probably isn't that great.

And I'd agree with Muzza.. an excellent chance to make use of those cans of matt black you've got lying around Razz.

No chance of a warranty repair at that age. Thy may touch it up at a good price though.

Tis the general impression you get from t'internet these days.

I had a paintjob done by Padded Cell before...top job despite the fact it was worn and chipped all over the place. That was user neglect.

Sorry guy's you've lost me there???

Re Pics, yep no probs I'll take some tomorrow and upload them.

Thanks to everyone for their feedback much appreciated. I dont know much about paint jobs or how long one would expect them to last etc, so I didnt want to give them a call expecting something thats unlikely to happen...

Re the comments of the tacky paint job lol, it's not everyone's cup of tea. But in my defence this was my hubby's old bike and I wanted it for what it can do! Oh and I have every intention on changing it, just don't know what to go for Laughing

Gedges had a brand-new Gixxer done by DreamMachine for a customer once, three times it came back with patches of orange-skinned paintwork. The customer finally had to take the bike in that state, with the promise it would be rectified later (at a 4th attempt by the chimps at DreamMachine). Personally I wouldn't take a bike anywhere near them. Back in the day they were the bollocks, now they're just bollocks.

It looks like heat bubbling. Did you take it too close to the stove?

they are saying that they dont think this is a real question, they think you are pissing about.. i dont know why though! Confused

yeah that paintjob is abit shoddy to be honest Laughing

bubbling could be caused by heat which is likely, or chemicals.. maybe something got spilt on it.
or the painters didnt clean the surface before painting it..

id suggest just taking it to another shop and getting a new and better paintjob.
no point in taking it to the same place as it might happen again if they are abit crap.
its worth the extra money to get something that looks good and will last. Thumbs Up

hope this helps Thumbs Up Very Happy

Not bad.
As for the paint job, that is heat or solvent, looks to me more like a solvent has hit it, like what happens when you spill petrol over a non 2k laquer surface. Could also be it was never baked off properly and there is still a very tiny layer of solvent trapped at the bottom which has managed to move and make those gack marks.

Thanks for the above, as you can see I am 100% genuine! Sad

Thanks for all the feedback, it actually happened when it was cold? Bike stored in garage at all times.

Next steps...

Firstly, anyone who can suggest a decent sprayer in the Hampshire area?

Secondly, what to go for!

yeah its pretty obvious you are genuine.. Thumbs Up Very Happy

hmm, must be a solvent issue then.

when you find a sprayer tell them the problem and ask them to take all the remaining layers of paint off so you can start from scratch.
as for the paint.. i would say repsol colours but it wouldnt go on a yamaha lol.
A yamaha Tech3 replica paint job would look awesome! might be pricey though..
(Tech3 = james toseland and colin edwards bikes) incase you didnt know.. Laughing

hope this helps Thumbs Up

Hi
I have this problem on my R1 too (I have the Fortuna scheme) and have decided to go back to the basic blue from Yamaha.
It's a pain really as the bubbling comes with age as does fading decals and the paint work looking bad from dents scratches after a while.
Any number of things can cause it and it's a bummer when it starts to appear.
