magnetic tank bag's any good

never used one before on my sports bike but thinking of getting one to go along with my tail pack, are they safe etc at speed. guess its a pain to fuel up with a tank bag but the mag ones must just lift straight off?..

I have a very thin tank bag for my SV and tend to use it quite a lot, as I'll put my satnav, phone and wallet etc. in it and then it's easy to just lift off and take with me when I stop.

Not had a problem with refuelling, as need to take it off to pay and it certainly feels very secure with just the magnets, however there is a strap that can be used as extra security, but I don't bother.

Just be careful to fold over the back (where the magnets are) on itself if you put it down, so that you don't pick up any dirt or grit as this would scratch the tank.

The Lidl "B-square" ones are pretty damned good. Mine has never shifted up to silly mph. Might be more of an issue on an unfaired bike though.

Hi

We have a cheapo HG one which works well. Has a small strap to loop around the headstock to stop it being able to slide fully off. No problems at normal speeds with it even moving let alone sliding off.

Have somewhat overloaded it and it has been fine (although not tried it overloaded at speed):-

I have a lidl one and it's been great, it's almost like a tardis as i've had packs of nappies, tins of beans and bottles of pop in it at the same time and it's never shifted an inch.

Came back from stockport earlier this week with a video projector in it and even at 80 - 90mph on the M62 it didn't move. I have an unfaired bike too BTW.

Well worth the £20 lidl charge.

Yep. I have an Oxford 1st one and it works fine, doesn't move at any speed and I've got used shifting it to fill up.

My Lidl tankbag let me down. The plastic clasp that holds the strap snapped. No big deal as i'm left with a loop, and a bungee hooks through with no rubbing on tank.
They have a headstock strap.

i've got a lidl special, tank bag too.

One thing to watch for with tank bags, is if you put them down, the magnets can pick up bits of grit that contain magnetic material. So brush your hand over the magnet bits, before putting onto the tank. Otherwise you will end up with a scratch.

You dont even really need a metal tank, as a lot of tank bags come with a strap so that you can secure the bag to the tank.

I have the Lidl one, never had a problem with it shifting, even when expanded and very full. The waterproof cover has also proved to be waterproof and it does have the strap if you feel the need to make it more secure.

I have the lidl one, never moved on a lap of the tt course whilst fully laden. Maybe not the greatest waterproofness, but can't complain about value for money.

Another vote for the Lidl Special here. My mate has one that was over double the price, and the only notable difference in was that his waterproof cover had a see-through window in it too so you could still see your map - the lidl one is just like a bin bag cover, so I had to stop and lift it every time I wanted to look at map. Didn't seem to be much difference in quality between them though.

They only do them a couple of times per year on a 'special' (you find out about it from their website) from what I remember it seems to be around march/october. You have to get there on the first day though if you live in a city cause all the good stuff and good sizes are snapped up pretty damn quick!

What bike have you got? The onlly reason i ask is i have a ZX10R and they can restrict your riding as they push you up away from the bars. Dont get me wrong i use one but i dont expand it out. I got the oxford humpback luggage but use it more as a tailpack expanded.

Ive had mine for about 3 years now, and its had loads of use and its still going strong.
I used it a couple of weeks back for a weekend in wales and it was crammed full - very heavy but didnt slip once.

The bars are a bit below the tank, the more you put it in it the higher it goes and it pushes into your chest. I would try lidl one as its cheap and see how you feel with it.

im wondering if ill be able to see my satnav, its mounted on the centre nut on the top yoke sits directly above the yoke just below the height of the clocks.

i have a 23ltr tail pack so think ill get most stuff in there, tent is very small and straps to the tail pack so probably wont have a tank bag full up, i have a small backpack to put a few bits in but need to keep that light with the amount of miles ill be doing (2000)....
