GOING TO EUROPE IN 1 WEEK ins help needed..........

This is as exciting as it gets people.

I am leaving & travelling for 3 months. Leaving my job which i'll miss but come on it's hitting busy season & I will not miss that...

Travelling in a clockwise direction is the plan.
Starting from the ferry to Calais.
Scandinavia for a month..ish.
Latvia lithuania Estonia sadly cant get visa for Belarus... so detour into Poland head south to the Balkans say hello to Greece, Albania.
Switzerland, probly won't be allowed up & over as roads may be closed by time we reach

Necessities got:

Passport with copies
Driving License card & paper with copies
Credit card & copies
EHIC with copies
90 days insurance cover with copies
Pacsafe for soft luggage (save me phoning Carol Nash)
£3500 sadly no copies
Serviced Zephyr 1 & only
Map
Bulbs etc

Necessities Needed:

Brakedown cover. Any suggestions for a 90 day trip?

Question....
Can you buy ins while abroad, say if your gonna be longer than 90 days (may well be not sure)?

This will be the most travelling I have ever done in my life!!
Mistakes may be made, but im getting out there...

This is unbelievable. To extend your trip length after 90 days you have to return to the UK for at least 24hrs in order for it to be legal.

To take a touring trip to EUROPE for more than '90 days' the only insurance comp that will cover you is 'GROUP AMA' .
GIVES you 180 DAYS for £750. HAHA!!!!

Seriously, this is the only one???!!!

Is there really no demand for bikers to travel longer than 90 days, I thought we were all hardy buggers who could deal with a bit of roughing it...

The insurers are missing a hole in the market!

I prayed this wouldn't be the case...

I think its only 30 days euro cover on my insurance.

Could you get a cheap flight back, pop home, sort your post out and stuff, then fly back out, or does the bike have to come back? 90 days is quite a good length of time anyhow.

Okay, bit eager. Think about it, it's bike ins. The bike would have to come back. Surely.

Im on the adventure rider forum hoping they can shed some light onto my dilemma.

Please help if you know anything....

As far as I'm aware eBike insurance provide you with 365 days of EU cover, however, Albania, Macedonia, Serbia and Bosnia & Herzegovina etc are not in the EU so you will need to sort out insurance cover for those countries. Albania is particularly difficult I believe due to appalling roads, driving and theft.

You also might have trouble with breakdown cover, I recently got back from riding to Romania and for some reason I failed to notice that my European breakdown cover didn't actually cover me in Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary or Romania. I checked with other major cover providers and Romania and Croatia weren't covered by them either, yet to find one that has complete coverage but haven't had an exhaustive look into it yet.

To be fair though if you make sure your bike is mechanically sound before you go, have sufficient tools and a clue then it isn't an absolute necessity, local recovery or mechanics could be found out there for bigger problems, and following an accident you could sort it out yourself locally and possibly claim back costs off your travel insurance. Make sure your travel insurance covers you to ride motorcycles over 50/125cc, most don't.

I think with non EU countries you need to buy insurance at the border. WHich may be a hassle but im not thinking that it will be an issue.

Ahh travel ins that is another long haul my friend...
Went to a travel agency and sat speaking to an advisor & she said We would be covered for personnal accident if we hired a bike, boat (a ruddy machine gun lol) jey ski but not if we went on our own bikes.

Going to probably skip the Travel INS

I looked at the Carol Nash website & filled in another quote form.
Good quote actually includes breakdown cover as well!!

They called me as i expected & I instantly told them my plans so to not waste anymore of anyones time.
They looked into it, like every other insurer i've spoken to.

I Didn't dare hope.

Well I couldn't believe what they told me.
I got them 'Richard & Mike' (other guy is Steve) to repeat it (more than once) I was apologetic of course & explained my days of searching.

(crying on the inside).

I asked several times to be absolutely certain & nobody was getting confused.

ME:
"So your saying I can go abroad for as long as I need to without a certain number of allowed days restricting me?"

MIKE:
"YES you have the annual green card"

ME:
"Okay, so I don't need to come back to the UK after any number of days? I can spend the 365 days abroad??? Without a trip back to the UK?"

MIKE:
"YES, are you okay? You have the annual green card which covers you for 365 days, im looking at it in front on of me now."


CAROL NASH (Brokers) are owned by GROUP AMA (Underwriters) so AMA give NASH good quote prices.

NASH told me AMA would give me 12 months insurance which includes an annual green card with UK & EU breakdown cover.
This would cover me for 365 days with no return to UK necessary within the 365 days.

For 3rd party F&T it came to less than £186 with an excess of £200.

Im extremely pleased & overwhelmingly relieved to find insurance.

Right I think we're sorted with Carol Nash

Turns out they offer cover for Bosnia, Albania etc. as standard for unlimited trips. Sarah got a quote for TPFT for £186 I think. Hopefully mine is similar.

Thanks for your help Phoenix I'll have a look at the Carol Nash travel insurance.
