Dear All

Whilst we are talking about the RS125 on the board, i have a few questions and would be soo grateful if any of you ( or Keith Very Happy ) could answer them.
Don't laugh when you see the questions i keep thinking about

1/ Does the bike sidestand cut the engine or stop it going into gear as the stand has a cable attached to the top of it but i just don't know?

2/ My bike starts without choke but it only ticks over for 30 seconds before cutting out. It is even worse when the engine is warm. If i stop at traffic lights, the engine just cuts out unless i keep it revving. What can be causing this?

3/My bike has done 211 miles and i have redlined it a handful of times once i was over 150 miles as i wanted to make sure it was derestricted and could rev high. Will this have ruined my engine?

4/ Will the RS125 redline without the powervalve attached?

Thanks to you all. Very Happy

1/ Cuts the ignition
2/ Tickover setting might be to low
3/ Probably not, if you are redlining it constantly whilst running it in, then maybe
4/ Not sure sorry mate

My bike will tick over (not that it ticks for long though Sad ) when the stand is down.

Also to all, what is the button on the left hand controls beneath the horn button? It is a small black square button.

The sidestand will only cut the iginition if the bike is in gear...obviously if you're in neutral, it wouldn't (shouldn't) cut out...

Hi

Not seen a side stand cutout on the RS, but they may have fitted them for some countries / years. Seen one with a self retracting side stand, and some of the old AF1's had a buzzer to tell you the side stand was down and you were in gear.

I agree that your idle speed is probably set a tad too low

I wouldnt rev it hard that young, as you stand a chance of sudden and expensive failure, but if it hasnt happened on the spot you have probably got away with it

Yes a restricted RS125 will hit the red line, but not in most of the gears

All the best

Cheers for all the advice.

Is the idle knob the black knurled wheel on the right hand side of the carb?
To increase the tick over idle speed, do you turn it clockwise or anti clockwise and what is meant to be the correct idling speed so i can get it right?

Regards

Hi

Yes, the black plastic knob on the carb adjusts idle speed. Turn it clockwise to increase idle speed

All the best

Has it done 211 miles from new? It's probably choked up to fook if you're redlining it without running the engine in 1st. I wouldn't thrash it till about 600miles. Check the sparky and the carb, could be messy.

If you are adjusting the tickover, why don't you just leave the bike ticking over on the stand then adjust it..... it will take a lot less time. Sounds as if you are adjusting it a bit, then starting the bike up, seeing what it's like, then probably adjusting it again till it's right.

U have to go into lap timer mode to use the button, change the menu on the screen using one of the 3 buttons next to the screen, then (I think) press the bottom button next to the screen to get the timer ready, then press the timer start button on the left handle bar to start it and stop it. Try downloading a use manual off the internet, it wll tell u how to adjust the idle speed and use the timer properly Razz

It must be the lap timer button then as i know which ones the high beam button.

With regards to the idling speed control on the carb, when the bike ticks over (for it's short time before cutting out) it is around 1250 rpm. Is it safer to have it idling above this speed?

I've heard of loads of people with troublesome RS's don't worry about the tickover they're a bit tempermntal.

I agree with the others run her in for about 6 to 7 hundread miles then change the plug, She'll be chocked up! After that feel free to rag it the redline as merrily as you like ! Thats what its made for!! Just don't put cheep 2 stroke in it!! And a restricted RS should hit the limiter! If you really need to know wait till its run in and find a quiet stretch of road, a hardly used RS should fly up 100 or close to!!
