Just bought my first 2 piece set and this may sound stupid to the rest of you but how tight are they meant to be?

The pants are fine but the top feels quite tight. Will that give much after breaking it in? When I say tight, it zips over my chest quite a tight fit. Not restrictive like I cant breath but like tight fitting.

I got the RST rift gear btw

Should be fairly tight, someone told me they should be like a second skin but i don't know about that, in time the jacket and trousers will give and shape a little to fit you.

They are cut to fit best in riding position so they may feel a bit odd standing up.
So if something seems to be pulling or squeezing when you're riding that's more worrying.
They will certainly give *a bit* in places they feel tight now

The jacket is fine actually, I thought it was a bit too tight but after doing a bit of stretching in it, seems to have given way a bit and will get better as time goes on.

The pants are a little bit big round the waiste though, wondering whether to send them back because if they get looser over time they will be too big I reckon.

Just never worn them before so didn't know what to expect... should of tried them on in a shop first really but bigbikebook.com were doing a July offer of 20% off RST stuff. Should of been £360 odd an got them for £300

It should have been £288.

My RST leathers are a bit loose round the waist. YEt the butt, crotch and legs are fine. I guess I dont have child bearing hips.

As it's a zip together 2 piece I'm not too worried as the jacket fits well too.

Probably won't, as much as anything they stretch because you are putting slight stress on the material and stitching.
If they aren't being stretched unlikely to change.
Plus you have more pie and beer room now.
(seriously we nearly all 'tend' to get a bit bigger here and there, and they should last you a few years)

Leathers should be tight to the point of discomfort when you try them on in the shop. They'll give 10% or so when broken in and they need to be fitted when you're riding so all the pads are held in the right place.

Also, like helmets, different manufacturers have different fits and suit different body shapes. My thin waist but big calves means I fit Arlen Ness leathers well. That was an expensive discovery.

ive got the same rst rift 2 piece in red, and had the same tight jacket problem, mines perfect now though.

they wont let you return it for a different size unless they cant repair it, i tried to do that with my jacket. had to resort to sabotaging it in the end..
the rst logo on the upper arm near the shoulder is the only bit they cant rapair, if you need a different size jacket, damage that bit and send it back and ask for another size.

the only bit on the trousers they cant fix is the rst logo on the thigh (the biggest ones). do the same with these if you need a different size, just peel the leather "RST" from inside the embroidered edge.
anything else they will just repair and send back to you.

also, if you wear the jacket without the jeans.. does it ride up at the back really dramatically? mine only stops riding up when the collar hits my helmet haha.

Wish I could understand why people keep on repeating this?

Leathers should fit when you are on the bike. Yes they will stretch a bit but they shouldn't stretch much. The pads and sliders should be held in place because the leathers fit not because the leather has been stretched to fit, that's what stretch panels are for.

I think this bollocks started when someone was advised to buy leathers that were too small for them and then it just continued taking on a life of it's own.

Because you rarely have your bike with you in the shop.

Leather is a natural fabric, it stretches over time. I have learned this first hand to my own expense. Unless you're planning on piling on the pounds "just comfy" in the shop is too big after a few weeks.

Any shop that didn't let me try the leathers on while sitting on my bike would not get my business.

And as you stated 'discomfort' is too small. Yes leather does stretch but stretch it too much and it loses strength, it also gets damaged by the seams.

Maybe my pain threshold is lower than yours.

To some extent it probably depends what shape you are and how much strain you put on them, but as I said, I'm sure I'm not the only person who's had to fit braces to his "I can't believe I'm that small" leather bottoms after a week or two of wearing them.

I've had them on for an hour just stretching an moving about in them and they've given allot since first putting them on. Feel like I will snug right into them in a couple of weeks.

I just paniced this morning thinking, "Is this normal for them to be like this?"

The shop said send them back and we'll send a replacement out straight away but fuck spending £10 - £15 couriering them back. The pants are actually fine I was just stressing out.

Cheers for the advice, appriciated Smile

Gonna need a new pair of boots now, mine look shit with this suit on. An whoever said about the jacket riding up your back, that's one of the reasons I bought a 2 piece same make suit. I've got a pair of textile pants and a jacket that doesn't zip to them an you're forever pulling it down, proper pisses me off that.

Did you not get both halves of the zip with the textile pants or jacket? If so you can get a seamstress (or seamster, let's not be sexist) to fit the other half of the trouser zip to the jacket or vice versa.

What's the deal with getting them wet as well? I've seen people talking about rubbing water proofing stuff on them...

To help break the leathers in, you should do star jumps whilst wearing them.

You'll soon know if the leathers are a good fit or not. Thumbs Up
