The distributers are telling us that there is quite a few games that will start to follow this price trend.

Its absolutly stupid, time of recession and doom and gloom and the cost price of these items is going up and up.

Like I've said before there is very little margin on new games anyway for the retailer and this tbh will see the industry and a lot of independants hit very hard.

I'm not sure I'll buy MW2 until after Christmas now. I can think of so many more worthwhile things to buy for £55. Hopefully this will have the opposite effect for the game manufacturers and people will vote with their feet. Obviously it's not so good for the retailers in that they will be the ones that suffer ultimately.

Think of how much is spent on movies and a DVD costs £10? Cinema £5? So £15 all in. It's scandelous.

I agree, price's are stupid.

If they actually dropped their price so we could sell new games at £30-£35 at release I belive they would actually see an increase of game sales.

But hey, what would I know. I can safely say that I will be out of this game soon enough. Hopefully when the econnomy recovers a bit I will be able to sell the business on.

The main reason I buy very few games is they are too expensive, if they were 20, or even 30 pound a go I'd be far more inclined to spend money on them but fuck me £55.. That is more money than I have to live on a week when I'm at uni.

I think I may again be pirating modern warfare and waiting about 6 months then getting a cheap disk from tailand or whatever for about a tenner..

This type of pricing increase piracy imo, tbh i won't be paying that for MW2, will wait untill it drops in price, if it doesn't then will lose custom from me.

Its like everything now-a-days, increasing in price when economy is in a poor state, no the way to solve anything, if prices drop more people would spend, meaning more money in circulation, lifting the economy.

Considering how easy it is to pirate the 360 version I'll just be doing that. I'm not paying £40 for a new game, let alone £55. If games were £20 each I wouldn't need to pirate them but they're stupid prices for a disk. Yes developers spend a lot of money but I think they would make the money back easily selling games cheaper and piracy would drop.

I don't think standard games are that expensive. Look at prices 10 or 20 years ago of the top games of the time and you'll find they haven't increased all that much in cost.

I don't think £40 is exessive for something that will give many many hours of entertainment. Night out at the cinema is often around the £20 mark.

I never pay more than 35 quid for games and won't be changing that for MW2. No doubt it'll be available for £30 odd a month or so after release, so I'll pick it up then. As prices go down so quickly it doesn't really matter what the official release price is.

Read this on N4G a few days ago, is this just the console version?

PC games seem to have always been £10 less just because of the platform. They can shove £55 up their arse, like Hex said the publishers and developers are making all the cash.

It's not like its a brand new engine they've been working on for years. It'll be the same shit with a different skin, how they can justify the cost is beyond me.

I've got a broken 360 that I need to send off for repair, may get it chipped now too.

The thing I don't understand is that it isn't a new idea, new game engine, new textures or anything major changed.

They're using the same engine from MW and the same character textures, sounds and quite a few other things. If anything this is just an expansion pack on MW. Which is why I would never pay the £55.

considering I still play COD4 over a year down the line, the cost doesnt seem too much to me. If the game lives up to the standards of MW1 then it will be money well spent.

In addition it might cut down on the number of young kids playing the game underage not a bad thing imo

It's like when the N64 came out and games cost £80! That was ridiculous.
