BT home hub 2.0

Well my dad went ahaead and ended up with the black BT homehub thing. Theres currently very little between it going back to them or me shot putting it over the back wall.

I set it up as per the instructions but all it would do is connect with the laptop wirelessly for a little bit with a 'very strong signal' then it would vanish. I did some reading and realised it may have been using an encryption not suitable for the computer so changed it to a different one (that I had been previously using). Worked fine last night but today no signal again. Ive reset the damn thing and it re-connected but only for a short time before it started bombing out again. Currently the old white one is working like a charm sat in the same place as the black one.

Any thoughts before I have to ring up someone who's first language isn't even bad english like mine?

From experience of dealing with tech support the first thing they will have you do is restore all the defaults and try it without encryption for a while.

Also you may be getting interference from neighbours and not necessarily internet wifi. One of out neighbours has a wireless camera which screwed with our wifi on a particular channel, so you might want to try changing the channel.

Also try it with a few different devices to rule out your computer being the problem.

Best bet before booting it over the wall is to turn off the N wireless signal unless you've got a new wireless card that can support it.

That has sorted out a few i've looked at recently. Bugger knows how it fucks everything else up

Rab, I thought I had did that but I will look again. At the moment my laptop can pick up the original white hub happily but that black one is the work of the devil. Its no wonder BT are happy to charge you 90 quid to set it up, scumbags!!

How do I turn off this N signal then? Just somewhere in the bthomehub.home thingy?

Cant remeber off the top of my head since I still use the white home hub.

Not likely to take the leap to the black one regardless of how nice it looks

It shouldn't be hidden though and it'll probably be in the "advanced" settings somewhere i would have thought.

Other options are to change the channel its broadcasting on. Had this problem once before when the connection would cut out every few minutes. Suspect it was all the wireless phones my mate had.
