Man who claims climate change is a hoax says he'll go to jail before paying 'carbon tax'
Jul 29 2009 by Dave Goodban, Mid Cheshire Chronicle

A SELF-PROCLAIMED activist from Winnington says he’ll go to prison to make a stand over his belief that climate change is a hoax.

Daniel Whitton has refused to pay his council tax for the last six months – because of government proposals to introduce a ‘carbon tax’ in 2013.

Cheshire West and Chester Council has threatened him with legal action, but Daniel’s refusing to back down.

The unemployed 32-year-old believes ‘global warming’ and ‘the greenhouse effect’ are environmental buzzwords coined by the government to claim more money from the public.

“I’m speaking up for humanity,” he said. “Some people won’t be able to afford to eat or heat their homes if this carbon credit scheme is brought in.”

The initiative is aimed at mitigating the growth in concentrations of greenhouse gases.

Wearing a T-shirt proclaiming ‘Global warming is a hoax’, Daniel said: “Apparently I’m contributing to destroying the planet and I’m responsible for an ecological Armageddon!

“I’m withholding my council tax because I’m not happy with the service I’m getting. I know I’ll win if they take me to court.”

A letter dated July 13 says he owes the council £202.11 for the period of January 15 to March 31, 2009.

It warns that failure to pay up by July 20 ‘will result in recovery proceedings commencing through the magistrates court without further notice’.

But Daniel says: “I’m prepared to go to prison. Two weeks in prison would be a walk in the park compared to living under a global garden tax.”

He added: “I’m not trying to make enemies, and I’m not trying to bring about a revolution. I’m just trying to make people aware of an issue which could affect us all.”

The report that particularly shocks me the most is DEFRA Personal Carbon Trading Public Acceptability pages 111 and 39.

https://www.defra.gov.uk/environment/...eptability.pdf

Page 111 states that we will each get a 4 tonne carbon allowance, if we want more we have to buy them off banks and private companies and the price of a carbon credit will depend on the manipulation of the markets.
Children will be lumped on our bills and we will have to pay a carbon tax on top of the price we pay right now for everything.

Our lives will be micromanaged this is nothing more than a form of eugenics, as Meyer Hillman stated at a meeting in Cheshire it will be Survival of the Fittest (or should that be cruelest?).

Page 39 States that those on benefits may not be entitled to purchase basic things like food heating and petrol in 2013.

Who can say that they will still have a job in 4 years

Quote:
People on benefits were also identified as a group who should not necessarily be eligible for a carbon allowance. A few individuals felt that those already in receipt of benefits should not be entitled to another State handout in the form of the carbon allowance, as they might end up profiting if they did not use up
their allowance and could sell their surplus credits. These participants thought that people on benefits already receive enough help from the State as it is, and might not be responsible enough to manage their own allowance.

No carbon allowance no card=no purchase? cant be right.

“If you had some poor students or really poor people who just sold all their carbon credits because they needed the cash, what would then happen? Would their electricity just be cut off?”

They'd probably be given free reading courses, you might get one too if you run out of carbon credits.

It says that people on benefits wouldn't be entitled to a carbon allowance, that is the 4 free tonnes. So they would pay carbon tax on every purchase that it's applied to, whereas working people would not pay it on the first 4 tonnes but would do on everything after.

Doesn't exactly sound like an idea far along the thought process so far, first I've read about it too, heard the idea mentioned once before I think vaguely. It's just going to be a way of putting a bigger tax on transport mainly, cars and planes, and no doubt electric cars would be exempt because they run on electricity that comes from carbon free fairies.

LOL ... so if you're unhappy about what your council tax is going to be spent on in several years' time, you can just stop paying now?

Yeah, he's effectively saying he's happy with that it's spent on at the moment but is not paying it in protest, which isn't a valid reason (and neither is not being happy anyway). He's deluded if he thinks he'll win when it goes to court, he won't, they never do.

PCT Press Release 30 July 2009

The Personal Carbon Trading Bomb
You may not be able to purchase food, heating or petrol in 2013.

Self labeled as a ‘Freeman on the Land’ Daniel Whitton (32) of Cheshire has refused to pay his Council Tax and would rather go to prison as a protest to raise the awareness of Personal Carbon Trading as proposed by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

Daniel is an investigative journalist for alternative media organizations www.ukcolumn.org and www.infowars.com and not unemployed as stated in an article that recently appeared in his local newspaper:

https://www.midcheshirechronicle.co.uk/mid-cheshire-news/local-mid-cheshire-news/2009/07/29/man-who-claims-climate-change-is-a-hoax-says-he-ll-go-to-jail-before-paying-carbon-tax-93570-24256295/

“It’s not that I can’t pay, I won’t pay” stated Daniel. “I have been to see my local MP Mike Hall, telephoned, emailed and visited all of my local Councillors.
Been a delegate at a Climate 2050 ‘democratic’ meeting where I was denied my freedom of speech and driven out of the meeting, and attended a Local Council Meeting where my questions were refused as ‘not debatable’.

“The report that particularly shocks me and prompted me to take action and lead beyond my authority is DEFRA Personal Carbon Trading: Public Acceptability

https://www.defra.gov.uk/environment/climatechange/uk/individual/carbontrading/pdf/pct-public-acceptability.pdf

Page 111 states:
· Each citizen would be given 4000 carbon credits (1 Credit = 1kg of carbon)
· Every time you bought fuel at a petrol station, paid home energy bills or booked travel tickets, you would have to pay a certain number of credits from your carbon allowance (on top of the financial cost of your purchase)
· 40% of the national carbon budget would be allocated to the public. The remaining 60% would be auctioned off to be sold in a ‘carbon market’, for example to banks and other financial institutions, who would trade in carbon credits
· The funds from this auction would allow the government to reduce the level of taxes in the economy
· If you needed to buy extra credits or sell left-over credits you could buy them from this carbon market
· The price of one credit would vary according to the market (in the same way that exchange rates for foreign currency vary).

“Therefore if citizens want more they have to buy them off banks and private companies and, as stated, the price of a carbon credit will depend on the manipulation of the markets. This, on top of the price we pay right now for everything.”
“Page 30 States that those on benefits may not be entitled to purchase basic things like food heating and petrol in 2013:
4.36 People on benefits were also identified as a group who should not necessarily be eligible for a carbon allowance………….................
…………..participants thought that people on benefits already receive enough help from the State as it is, and might not be responsible enough to manage their own allowance.

“Who can say that they will still have a job in 4 years?”

Daniel refers back to his refusal to pay his Council Tax:
“Our Constitution states that the Council needs to: Represent ward interests by providing a voice for all sectors of the community; Promote the principles of equality tolerance and local democracy in local communities.”

“They are clearly not providing this service and are not looking after the future interests of the community – I will therefore not pay for a service that is not being provided”.

“Sometimes when you stand up you are seen as acting Illegitimately, unfortunately I cannot wait to be given legitimacy, I must legitimize myself.”

Low Carbon: Cheshire West and Chester Council to listen to peoples' views on climate change
By Sarah Griffiths on Apr 24, 09 01:20 PM in News
PEOPLE in Cheshire West and Chester will be able to have their say on climate change.

The assurance has come from the top environment politician at the new Cheshire West and Chester Council, Cllr Neil Ritchie (Con, Broxton).

Public speaker Daniel Whitton told a meeting of the full council: "Most of the people in Cheshire West and Chester do not believe that global warming and climate change are man made problems. Will the council provide a platform for the people in the area to present their case?"

"The council will enable individuals and groups to take part in its discussions", said Cllr Ritchie. He pointed out that public speaking time is available at meetings of the council and at other public meetings and the authority will also have local area working arrangements.

"We will have to consider many issues which will involve many groups and climate change is just one example."

Cllr Ritchie said he was 'sure' officers and councillors will take the opportunity to listen to individuals and groups "who have a similar interest, albeit perhaps from a different viewpoint".

"It is not a case of providing a platform for such views, more a case of being prepared to listen," he explained.
