Hey,
Considering getting an 03' 's' 999. Anyone had experience with the bike. What are all the differences and is the (s) really worth it.

I also would like to know how they stack up against jap thousands?

Share your Knowledge PLEASE.

thanks.

not ridden one but sat on a 749 afor i bought my last bike, and a 6'4" it felt like a carefully constructed stress position commissioned by a german fetishist

didn't ride it though the seating position put me off that much.

Yes the S is worth the extra wedge over the standard model.

You get better wheels, and suspension.

That's a one off special.

(From what I can see, 1098 seat unit swingarm, and rear wheel, Beringer endurance calipers, lots of carbon)

In 2003 the motor was the same in both the S and the base model.

It's the 2005 onwards bikes that got a more powerful engine.

On the road your bravery will dictate how fast you are compared to the bike you are on, so if you're a good rider you'll easily keep up with IL 4 1000cc bikes.

For the 999 you're looking at about 135-145bhp at the wheel I expect.

I don't know about the 999S but I've done a fair bit of work on a 749S.

It's beautifully constructed, well made, gorgeous piece of machinery. It sounds immense and feels cracking.

Power wise it won't stack up against a 1000cc IL4, but there's plenty for the road. And it's worth it to be not another blue and white gixxer!

I'm 6' 3" and it was comfortable for me. Termignoni end can is a must. Then smatterings of carefully placed carbon. Heaven.

just buy it, people will think your much cooler if you say "oh i just got a ducati 999" rather than a run of the mill 1l jap sports bike.

anyway whats the chances of using the full power of a 1l jap sports bike on the road?

If you can afford it, go for the 2005 999 S

Ohlins suspention front and rear, lighter marchesini wheels.

999R engine from the 2003-04 bike.
