My home town of Nottingham has just got the green light to go ahead With there plans for this "stealth tax".

Boils down to a car park space at work costing around £250/year billed to the company, who are free to pass this on to you.

All part of the bid to cut congestion and big up public transport, no set hours though, so even if you work nights and public transport isn't running you don't have a choice.

I'm sure it'll be coming to a town near you soon , fvckers!

Hi

Been coming for years. Seems to be yet another bit of Labours electoral suicide.

It only applies to the centre of Nottingham, so I suspect will lead to quite a few companies looking to move out of the area.

Looks like they are using it to get another £10m a year to subsidise the trams.

All the best

Keith

I went to Nottingham with work Monday/Tuesday this week. There's a LOT of empty office space & shops in the centre. Noticeably more than other places I visit.

Isn't Nottingham traditional Labour heartland?

This government really is a special bunch of mongs.

I'm wondering if you remove the space marking lines you could argue there aren't any spaces? You can't charge by the bay if there aren't any.

The new tram extention they're planning, now doesn't go near anything useful as they couldn't use the route they wanted to for some reason.

Starting to hate Nottingham, lots of money coming in and it all gets spent on giving the scag heads pretty architect designed open spaces that no one uses, due to the pile of intoxicated bums scattered amongst the Japanese acers and slate chippings.

All the jobs that need doing don't even get a look in, canning circus the big bottle neck on the main route in, just had millions spent taking a lane out and making it look pretty whilst safer for the cyclists, who go the flat way, rather than cycling a mile up a 1in3 hill just to roll down the other side.

Good idea. If I was a company director, I'd paint NO PARKING everywhere and so could honestly say there were no parking spaces. I would then let everyone park 'illegally'.

As long as they can't charge for lack of enforcement of no parking on their own property, I can't see how the council/govt could do anything about it.

Incredibly stupid scheme Rolling Eyes

Yeh but you know what councils are like for ripping people off, They're just as good, if not better, at finding loopholes around loopholes. Even if they don't they won't take long to amend the existing laws so they can charge.

Having said that I did hear about this and I thought it only applied to places with more than ten parking spaces, which, for city centre places, can't be that many shops surely?

One of the best lines:
"..and has the added benefit of tackling unnecessary commuter journeys, one of the main causes of congestion."

Is it just me or have one of the MAJOR unnessasery car journeys just stopped happening for 6 weeks.

I work 30 miles away, no direct transport links so a car or bike is my only option.

Worries me that Milton Keynes is on the list though!

"it will be imposed on all companies with 11 or more staff parking places"

So have 10 staff parking spaces, and lots of visitors parking spaces. Smile

Then cry 'Havoc!' and let slip the dogs of loopholes...
