I was just wondering if i brake, using th back brake a lot, would this add to tire wear, to the back tire?

I am only asking as i tend to use the back brake a lot instead of the front for minor stopping, reducing speed ect.

Unless you brake really hard and skid a lot.....no.
It`s better to use rear and front equally IME.Most rear brakes are fairly useless for cutting speed and should be used for control more than stopping power..

Worth getting out the habit of using the rear most the time as you will instinctively go for it in an emergency and it won't do anything. Only time I use the rear is to tighten up my line around a bend if I go in too hot.

Rear break gets used to hold the bike at lights that are on a slight hill, controling speed while filtering (taught on A2 lessons as it stops the front diving) and controling the height of the front wheel Twisted Evil

If you are slowing down then you have to use the font or the rear ... can't see it makes much odds which one you add tyre wear too!! Wink

I use the back all the time (but coupled with the front, I rarely use JUST the rear)!! Thumbs Up

For me, front to lose speed quickly, rear to aid slow maneuvering like filtering and coming to a stop at lights, also to hold the bike on a hill. I also use the rear to lose a little speed in a bend if I'm going to quick. But mainly its the front.

I tend to use the rear for the same as you but I do give the rear a bit of work to do when coming down to the last 70% of the braking zone, just to help the front out and make the bike feel a little more stable.

If you yank the brake on that happens but you can stand a bike on its nose in the rain with experience and practice. You get MUCH better braking from the front compared to the rear.

On a sporty bike I rarely use the back brake. Low speed stuff mainly. On the SM I do, and on the 70 I have little choice as the front is useless.

I use it when coupled with engine braking whilst coming to a red light ect, and use the front to reduce the rest of the speed.

If i am hammering it i use my front for more aggresive braking, but also back to take a bit of speed off if hitting a tight corner ect.

I tend to use the back brake around town, low speed, etc.

Everything else is engine braking...front stoppers if I really have to.

On the xr the front brake is wank, on the fireblade the rear brake is wank.

If i'm on a steep hill and i've stopped, i normally use the back brake so i can take my hands off the bars to give my wrists a break.

It gets a bit annoying when i've just got used to using the front brakes again on the blade through the summer, and then have to learn myself to use the back brake on the xr through winter.

Bah, they should make nobblies for the blade.
