I have a WhiteBrothers exhaust .... something like this one.

The exhaust 'gasses out' via the plates ... and not through the rear bit.

Sounds nice and is very light ... and by adding or removing plates you can alter the noise level.
With all the plates in - it goes really well / sounds nice and thumpy / but is a bit too loud.
With all the plates out - it is super quiet, but a bitch to start and gutless.
So you have to find a happy medium !
