Hi there. I'm new to this site, so please forgive me if this have been aired previously. I have a Yam YBR125. Fuel gauge is acting up. It's going from full to E as you look at it. Any solutions/advice ? Thanks.

Reset trip meter each time you fill up and ride till you reach reserve.

Will be the cheapest option.

How old is the bike? If it is still fairly new it might be in warranty?

Most fuel guages on bikes are pretty useless anyway regarding accuracy and the presence of one on the dash is the exception to the rule. A lot of bikes just have a light that comes on when fuel drops to a certain level, particularly if fuel injection and without a reserve tank. In such cases using the trip meter by re-setting it when full is the only solution and the one that works best anyway.

So it would probably be best to just ignore the fuel guage and use the trip meter. It simply won't be worth the expense trying to fix the problem and the effect of a faulty fuel guage on the re-sale value of a 125 will be negligible.

Alot of bikes don't have fuel gauges, as iooi says just reset you trip each time you fill up with fuel.

Hi

Fuel gauges often work off a float acting on a variable resistor . Possible there is a break in a wire which will give infinate resistance (and then when it connects again giving a sensible resistance) and so a change in reading. Finding the break is the difficult bit.

All the best

Keith

Thanks everybody. The bike is out of warranty so it'll be me who does something (if anything) to rectify this. I have been resetting the speedo each time. I was just afraid there might be some more serious problem. From your replies I take it this problem would not keep you awake at night !

Once again, thanks for your responses. It's heartening to know there are people out there who will assist if asked.

My CG doesn't have a trip counter or fuel gauage, so what do I do...could make a mental note of the mileage when I top up but I'm forgetfull so...

When I think it's been a while since I last filled up I just open the tank, shake it a bit and top up when it sound/looks like there's hardly any petrol, never had to use reserve yet.

Is it the 2005 carb based model, as that YBR has quite a lot of reserve space in the tank so there's not much to worry about. I reckon you'd get 30+ more miles out of it when you switch to reserve. AFAIK the 2007+ fuel-injected model also has that same size reserve but switches to it by itself, so with a faulty gauge you wouldn't know when you start using it.

You could write the mileage on the back of your petrol receipt.
