Just curious what general thoughts are on tats on ladies upper arms. I think they can look naff, but am considering having one there with a design I've been working on in my head.

Without going into the reason behind it (just trust me, it's meaningful) I'm thinking of something perhaps 2 inches in a vaguely triangular shape, tribally with three marbles strategically placed.

I want it on show, and am drawn to my upper arm (already got one on my shoulder on the other side).

Would love your comments on if you think the placing of upper arm would look poo or not.

I'm no doubt old-fashioned, but I don't like tattoos on women at all. Not that much on men either, certainly not to the extent of David Beckham. Sick

Tats on a laydee. No thanks. Not anywhere.
And as tats are no more than wallpaper for the skin, can you live with the same wallpaper.

I agree with the wallpaper sentiment about most tattoos.

Whether they suit or not is very much down to the individual, i'm not against tattoos on women in particular though. Some I very much approve of Thumbs Up

Unless they are just ill thought out tramp stamps, done because 'everyone else has them'. Having said that, there is a reason they are popular, and they probably do what they are designed to.

Give me somewhere to aim?

Tattoos on women are good, bold colourful new school stuff looks good. Tribal looks cheap, dull and generic on everyone. This is because tribal is cheap, dull and generic.

You can't say weather a tattoo on my X will look good.

Tattoos can look awesome or shit, it has nothing to do where they are or who they are on. It is about opinion, design and the skill of the artwork.

Aslong as you never go anywhere near the boobs.

Boobs are sacred.

The girl the other night had a giant playboy bunny on her arse... Couldn't really see the appeal I'll be honest Neutral

To be honest, I've yet to see a tattoo add anything to a girl. Usually they detract. And since the shoulder/clavicle/upper arm is as much a part of feminity as the curve of arse/boob/waist, I would certainly take care.

Anyway, aren't you with someone? Surely it's their opinion that counts, not a bunch of randoms on the web.

The design is always going to be debatable, I would not worry what others think.

The location is fine and probably one of the more sensible places to have one. Tats on tits always look trashy (IMHO).

Generally tattoos on ladies look fine when wearing casuals. I like mine with with a black racer back top. BUT, I really dislike it when I wear smart outfits/dresses, it looks bad! I had to find a dress for a wedding that covered it and I can't really wear the little vest tops I used ot wear to work, not without a little cardi over the top.

As for the tramp stamp - SHUT IT Middle Finger Wink. Had mine done years before that douche came out! It's a great place for a tattoo, easily covered and can flatter lady curves Smile.

Absolutely, a girl I know had a cartoon devil tattoed hugging the upper part of her tit. This was done when she was 18.

Now that she is 25, has grown up somewhat and is no longer sucking off chavs, she feels it isn't as "heavvvvvy blud" as she once thought.

Cue laser removal and an empty purse.

Twats.

The stomach should generally also be avoided by women as well, at least on the front part, the hips not so much, if they intend to become pregnant at any stage.

If you are just posting the question out of curiosity then they can look fine, although I may be biased as I have a bodysuit and my sister two sleeves and various others.

My concern is that if you are worried about what the tattoo will look like to other people then are you sure you want to get it in a visible place?

Even women with bodysuits can look good to me, depends on the quality, style and woman though.

Nah, it was lower and on one cheek/just above.

Very strange.

Thanks for the comments Thumbs Up

I'm not worried about what other people will think, that is the wrong word. I just like to do my research before I do something that I'm stuck with forever, and I value the opinions of others. I like to think that I won't look like a chav but if the general view is that it's chavvy then yes I will rethink it. I am simply interested in other peoples' stereotypes, perceptions and first impressions.

I agree with chris-red about it being the design and the artwork that makes a tattoo. Obviously not everyone in the world likes tattoos and I'm more bothered about me liking the design than anyone else.

I waited 5 years to get my other tat done to make sure I was sure, and I don't regret it. I'm not willing to wait another 5 years though (although I will wait until I'm 100% sure of the design).

I'll post pics as and when Very Happy

I think theye're mostly cheap, tacky and sad.

BUT.

I've got one on each arm and haven't regretted them for a nanosecond.

Go figure!

I struggle with the whole tattoo thing. I don't really like them, yet I have one myself (but I did think looooong and hard about what and where), and I frequently design them for friends, and other people who are willing to pay for a personal design.

I often think women with tats on their upper arms / shoulders / across their lower backs look so tacky...yet have friends with shoulders / sleeves done which look amazing.

I'm so fickle about the subject altogether!!! Confused
