The deauville:

Got the deauville a few months ago from london which had been used as a commuter/winter hack and was a bit of a wreck:

https://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x13/fronterapics/deauville/ebay1.jpg

https://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x13/fronterapics/deauville/ebay4.jpg

https://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x13/fronterapics/deauville/ebay3.jpg

The bodywork, wheels, forks, exhaust, engine, pretty much the whole bike needed lots of work to get it looking nice.
The engine had been overheated as the radiator fan didn't work so although it ran quite well we decided to give it a new engine.
Managed to get one from a 2005 bike with 8k miles on the clock.

Heres the end result:

https://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x13/fronterapics/deauville/deauville4.jpg

https://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x13/fronterapics/deauville/deauville3.jpg

https://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x13/fronterapics/deauville/deauville2.jpg

https://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x13/fronterapics/deauville/deauville1.jpg

The whole bike looks a lot newer now and the paint job has turned out pretty well considering it was done in my shed with no heat Laughing

Cool

---------------------------------------------------------------
The zzr:

This one isn't actually a bad bike but the bodywork is not as nice as i would have liked;so it has to be re-sprayed Smile
Needed some other little bit's aswell like throttle cables, cush drive rubbers, oil & filter change but that was done the day i bought the bike Razz

https://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x13/fronterapics/ZZR600/Image273.jpg

https://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x13/fronterapics/ZZR600/Image272.jpg

https://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x13/fronterapics/ZZR600/Image274.jpg

https://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x13/fronterapics/ZZR600/Image270.jpg

I'll have to update this with the after pics as it's not done yet.
All the plastics are hanging up in the shed awaiting me deciding which colour to paint them Confused

Theres also a bit of tidy up work to do on the wheels and exhaust e.t.c. but i'll get that done after the respray.

So that's it for now,not much of a show & tell thread but i'm bored so why not Very Happy

Thanks
Dave

I'm sure this wont be too many people's taste and to be honest it's not a colour i wanted either, but seeing it as it is now i think it looks awesome and will be 100x better when it's actually on the bike.

Just the tank, mirror mounts and one side panel to be lacquered tomorrow and should be back on the road for the weekend Cool

(this is not the end finish as it will still need a good polish to get the see your face in it look Smile but i'm going to leave that for a couple of weeks to let the lacquer fully harden)

Now is where i need some advice:
Although i didn't want any stickers on at first it think it's gonna need them to break it up a bit.
Can some one help me out as to what stickers i should go for?

Any pics as examples would be appreciated Thumbs Up

Thanks
Dave

i think the paint looks awesome mate! Thumbs Up Very Happy

as for stickers, try..
https://www.xtreemedecals.com/default.tpl?cart=116&id1=124&id2=130&startat=1&--woSECTIONSdatarq=130&--SECTIONSword=ww1

go for zzr original stickers, IMO going for random different stickers will just cheapen the look of the bike.

terrific job though, more pics? Laughing

I'm not an expert on paint but aren't you supose to lacquer while the last coat is still tacky so it gels properly. I think if the last coat is dry the laquer will peel off.

Also the finish on stickers look best if put on between paint and lacquer. (Also not an expert)

Not really a fan of the original stuff, but i see what you mean about cheapening (sp?) the look of the bike otherwise Eh?

More pics will follow tonight/tomorrow morning as i'll have the bike back together by then.

I'm no expert either, but as far as i'm aware you have to let the paint dry fully, then give it a quick go over with 1000ish grit to get it smooth then lacquer.

Thats the way the deauville was done anyway and that come out well Thumbs Up

Personal taste on this one.I know they are supposed to be put under the lacquer but i i'd rather put them on top so they can be changed if needed.
The vfr had some stickers lacquered on by the previous owner who had really poor taste and it's been a pain in the butt getting them back off,so since i also have bad taste i wont do that to the next owner Very Happy Thumbs Up Eh?

May be a little bit longer before it's done as i've just totally wrecked the tank Crying or Very sad

Didn't have the gun set right and put too much lacquer on which has now run all down the tank Embarassed

Will have to see how bad it is when it's all dry but will probably need rubbing back down and re-painted. Thumbs Down

Both bikes look brilliant! I'd get new fairing bolts for the kwak though... maybe colour matched ones.

I got the paint from a local supplies shop and picked it myself from the colour charts,so it's not actually a kawasaki colour (or bike colour for that matter)
The only code i got says 0-6-0338-2
Tryed putting that into google but cant find any info on it.

I take it that must be the genuine kawasaki colour?

Thanks Thumbs Up
Planning on getting them aswell at some point.I'm sure i have seen them quite cheap on ebay...

Thanks for the reply's Thumbs Up

Been out all night and just got back home about 15mins ago Smile it's amazing how much difference a paint job makes,it feels like a new bike now Razz .
Next job is to paint the forks and wheels which i'll probably start tomorrow.

Problem now is that my shed has a grey white and green haze over everything which will take a lot of cleaning . Laughing

Thanks
Dave

Were these done with a compressor and a spray gun?

It will be interesting to see the result once it's all polished.

Yup,But this is only my second bike i have ever painted so i wasn't expecting perfection.

The tank, left rear side panel, small back panel and front fairing seperator thing have all come out absolutely perfect and wont need any polishing at all.It honestly looks like they just come out of a body shop.

The nose cone, mirrors and other rear side panel have a little orange peel, but this is only in the lacquer not the actual paint so it's just a case of getting the rubbing compound on those panels then it'll come out all good.
Worst case would be to spray some more lacquer onto them which would also get a perfect finish.

I'm pretty confident that the next re-spray i do will be perfect as i know where i went wrong;no heat! i just couldn't get the lacquer to stick quick enough between coats meaning i had to put less on at a time.

Just used basecoat paint with 2:1 thinners.
Basecoat lacquer with 2:1 hardener +10% thinners.

The hardest part if your going to do yours is getting the stickers out Thumbs Down they take forever.
