Look from about 1.00 onwards, you see the guys tacho and its about a quarter up, travelling at a decent enough speed, then all of a sudden the tacho looks to be at idle speed. Like he pulls the clutch in and coasts all the way to the light?
Wouldnt this make his braking power shit?

It's not dangerous, just means he'll use pads slightly quicker than normal. No big deal.

I guess he must have block changed down to first which I personally don't like doing, but to each their own.

Just means he is relying on the brakes.

On a long down hill road such ideas could be dangerous if you land up braking so much that toast the brakes.

The first time I hit something in a car it was because I had just stalled the engine and hence most of the power to my brakes had been lost. I pressed as hard as I could but nothing happened, and I was panicking so didn't think to put it in to a different gear or use the hand brake. Bikes generally don't have engine assisted braking (as in pressure on the breaking pads) as far as I know.

It's in the car theory test (not that I've taken it yet) - steering and braking just doesn't work properly on a car when you free wheel or turn off the engine. Bikes are more simple I suppose.

Still, if he wanted to break using his engine in that video he just would have had to slip the clutch any time he wanted to and then find the right gear from there.

Edit: actually, thinking about it, I do this all the time when I'm very bored and I need to slow down over a long distance.... I just use the clutch and coast. It's fun, everyone should try it when there's a lack of traffic.

I Coast on long hills to get to a higher speed Didnt really notice the brakes being less powerful, just thought it was how fast i was going.

i was under the impression that oil doesn't get moved around as much when coasting? may be completely wrong though

It doens't but then when coasting there is very little load on anything depending on the oil pressure.
