Get a test ride on an SP1/2 sooner rather than later before you get your heart set on one, it's a fantastic bike, but you need to be a little bit unhinged to put up with one on a day to day basis Smile

Realistically speaking a Blade would have been a far more 'sensible' day to day option for me than my SP1, but then the sensible option isn't always the right one eh Wink

Out of interest, did you give the speed triple a test as well?

and if so, what made you choose the street over it?

oh yeah, nice bike! Cool

Ah, I never considered that you might be a bit smaller. Makes sense.

Enjoy the bike.

Btw, I want a CB100 now. It looks so much cooler than my 1999 CG.

It'd need to have the old style number plate.

Dont get an SP1/2 as an only bike, it will be hell.

It only likes fast roads and tracks, hates traffic and the UK, loves europe and ALP roads Smile.

Picture it. Cool

Nice bikes, test rode one when honda were doing the test rides with free prize draw (win what u ride) (didnt win.. Sad)

Fast, comfy, more sporty position than my hornet, and a Honda, so likely to be Bomb proof, although a new model so may be some design flaws that get ironed out. Not heard of any though?

They use the fireblade engine? I assume it is lifted from a diff model and not a new engine design?

why are they so bad in towns and the like then? lumpy fueling?

Can't speak for the CB1000 but the SP1/2s are bad in town for 3 reasons.

Full on commited riding position, the bike is incredibly stiff and coming from a sports tourer it's going to be like riding an iron girder.

Throttle response/fueling, somewhere between lumpy and barbaric depending on how well setup the bike is, once your on the power it's actually very good, but on/off fueling is harsh at best.

Tall gearing, tall enough that as stock, the bike has a hard time holding sub 30mph speeds without wanting to behave like one of those bucking bronco rides Smile

In all it's not a bike designed for a quick pootle down to the shops, and getting caught behind 20mph traffic will have you hating life.

On the flipside though, it's utterly reliable and beautifully made, a few tasteful mods and it's a spectacular, if rather full on experience.

Seb, just had to but in and say thats a fantastic post. I admire your honesty, people are all to quick to defend their bikes to the hilt and seeing someone admit that they love their bike despite its flaws is very refreshing! Nice one Thumbs Up

Went to my Honda dealer on the 4th with my dad as he's back from summer and wanted to look around for a bike he's going to keep for the rest of his days that he's capable. He caught a glimpse of the CB1000R and dribbled a little bit.

It was his birthday on the 5th so I called up and booked a test ride for him the following day without him knowing. So we turned up at 10AM and got shown over the bike and handed the keys, Dave (mate/salesman) suggested my dad took it out first for a bit to get used to it before taking me pillion. Arsehole didn't come back for 45 minutes after that and came back grinning like a 5 year old boy that's just discovered his willy.

Took me out on the back and it's a bit of a weapon, he's got an FZ6 over in Dubai which I love but he's not so keen on as you've gotta give it a bit of a thrashing to get much out of it. The CB on the other hand. Pottering along in 4th gear and wound it on and got to 120 mph very quickly. Pulls like a freight train which surprised me for an IL4. Can't really give you much more insight than that as I haven't got an english license so I can't ride over here just yet. But fuck me when I do, I know what bike I want.

Looks gorgeous as well encompassing Honda build quality and reliability. Service intervals are every 4000 miles/year. I'd say do it and don't think twice about it.

As stock they sound pretty horrible, constant geared cam whine doesn't sound too good without a good bass line to go with it.

Race cans sound incredible though, I've got harris high level pipes on mine and the sound is just apocalyptic.

*edit*

Just go sit on one before you get too sucked into the idea, the seat/bar relation will give you an idea of what Honda were thinking when they designed it.

Totally agree. I found the CB totally gutless too. I ended up getting a Corsaro Veloce and reading Seb's post above it sounds like the SP is very similar to the Veloce round town. Having said that, once I get moving the Morini is unbelievable and I don't regret my decision one bit. Sometimes you have to follow your heart. Thumbs Up Very Happy
