How often should you get a watch serviced, I want this one to last me a while so i'll be taking care of it.

Cheers, Dom

I've had my watch for 14 years now, wear it constantly and what I do is send it away to have the battery fitted and they give it a check over and let me know if it needs servicing. That's normally every two or three years.

It's a Citizen (nothing that special at all) that I used to use for diving so I needed to have it pressure tested after the battery change and just kept doing it. It's only been serviced twice IIRC so they certainly haven't ripped me off telling me it needs doing just for the hell of it.

Problem I have now is that the model is no longer made and there are no replacement bits being made either, so anything that goes wrong with it now will probably mean I have to replace it which will be a horrible moment for me Crying or Very sad

I have a little collection of watches including a Rolex Air King, 5 Omega's (Seamaster, Speedmaster, Dynamic, 2 x Constellations) and a Tissot.

For a manual watch look to have it serviced about every 5 years as the grease inside will eventually harden and 'go off' making it less reliable, but shouldn't actually do it much harm.

If it's a diver type watch then the seals should also replaced at the same time to keep its water resistance.

Find a good independent watchmaker and use them. Big jewellers only sent them to these anyway and charge you on top for the pleasure.

Enjoy, but ir's nearly as expensive a hobby as riding bikes Wink

Nice one anyway, i'll start saving up now for the service. Laughing

My Omega goes to a small local watchmaker to be serviced - normally every 3 years.

Be prepared! My Citizen replaced my Rolex which was serviced at great cost (sent to Rolex) and then promptly filled up with sea water at 25m (200m my ar&e Rolling Eyes ).

Never kept time properly either, so I just got rid and bought a cheapie, but it has to be said it did look beautiful Crying or Very sad

I've got a submariner (mixed metal + blue bezel) and it's supposed to be up to 300m, not that i'd go diving in it though.

Surely if that happened rolex would refund you or repair it?

Yeah, they jolly well should, but I was diving in Australia at the time, so I just flogged it for a good price instead Laughing

I seriously thought about treating myself to another one last year, but decided against it for now - sensible head!! Rolling Eyes

Grease in a Watch movement? Are ye havin'a laph? Laughing

They use light mineral oil in watches. 1 (10w60 or a 2 stroke mix Smile)
I would look at a service every couple of years. Five seems anout just the limit.

Always replace the strap with an OEM original competitive straps are shite.

Have a good time what ever you decide. Embarassed
