Hi.

I just left to go to work and had to come back because my bike had a problem.

The gear selector does not spring back. For example: change into 1st and the selector will click the bike into first, but the selector arm will not return to its original position. I can get it into second but the selector pedal part will stay up the way so I cannot shift any higher than that.

There doesn't appear to be any problems running in 1st and 2nd gear. The problem is that I cannot go any further than that though.

Any ideas of whats wrong and how to go about fixing it?

the part of the arm that is gripping the bolt that sticks out of the engine is gripping it fine. I thought maybe it was loose so it wouldn't spring back.

I'm guessing it's something inside the gearbox that needs replaced.

This is on a ZZR 600 E.

Looking at the haynes, I believe that the return springs have broken or something.

it will most likely be the return spring on the selecter shaft. this is not really cnnected to the gearbox, and is rather simple to replace. about half hour i would guess, but not 100% withyour bike

see image below. (ignore broken bit) the spring is the one around the shaft on the left, sort of a O= shape

Ah, top man. Thanks. I believe it is the return spring as well. I looked at the haynes exploded parts diagram.

Thanks for your help. I'll let you know how I get on.

No probs

NOTE - if you ride the bike, you can carefully push the lever back to its resting spot, then lift again for 3rd, and the same. use your foot to do the job of the spring, but take it easy!

Good luck!

I have looked at the haynes but it doesn't tell me what I need to do to remove this part and replace it.

I have confirmed it is the return spring because I can go all the way through the gearbox on the centrestand, returning the arm manually with my hand.

Thanks for any help.
