from reading that article it sounds like suicide rather than anything else, and you'd have thought he would have a pretty good idea what the quantity of drugs he took would do.

and if he was just trying to get high then I hope he took the drugs from where they store evidence at his police station.

Clearly a good thing, considering he was banging up suppliers while very likely nicking portions of their stash to sell on and use himself. Flagrant abuse of both trust and his powers.

if he was stealing from drugs seized then he was doing them a favour. if half the stash has disappeared then the person would be prosecuted for the amount that is left. if the stash has completely disappeared then that leaves the police slightly fucked when it goes to court.
