hey guys, short version is while i was at HG in taunton this afternoon picking up some warranty replacement gloves (my 6 month old Arlen ness ones manged to tear at the little finger), i managed to knock my helmet off the counter onto the ground..

the lady behind the counter seemed to think it hit the side pod but there arent any marks on it to tell. They suggested that as its an arai i send it to arai to be tested. Apprently its a free service where you pay £6 for delivery and they test the helmet to see if its still safe to ride with

Anyone here dropped their helmet and done simular? Was yours safe after? Il be gutted if i have to buy a replacement! Also means id be without a helmet for a time (no idea how long)

Sad

My point of view is, if you crash and your head bumps along a little bit, pretty much any helmet will save you. If you go face first into a lamp post then no helmets gonna save you. So I wouldnt particularly care.

Try not to crash and land on that side is my advice really Smile If you do crash try to aim for the other side and you''ll be alright.

Agree with the above two.

If you value your head, learn not to crash Smile.

meh, id be happy to carry on using it, but if your not get it tested.

yeah they do say dropping them will damage them, I think this must have something to do with there being no head inside the helmet at the time of the impact.

Are there plastic side pods on that helmet? if so the flex in them maybe absorbed a lot of the force and the actual shell is ok

Having a head inside compresses the polystyrene structure - one use only.

Drop it without a head inside and there's nothing to compress the internals, so it's just a whack on the shell. No biggie, in my opinion.

I'd agree with bendy on this, one small drop with no head in shouldn't be a problem as the insides take the shock away from the head. Unless it's been dropped a few times or the outer shell has no signs of damage I wouldn't worry about getting it tested/replacing it.

As before, if you were really worried, you'd put some effort into not crashing first Wink.

Get a lazer lid for 45 quid. You proved that you are not an expensive helmet person.
My lid is my honour Mr. Green

Unless the helmet is actually visibly damaged there are much better ways to spend the money to increase your safety perhaps some other motorbike gear or some hi-vis stuff Smile

For £6 and piece of mind, why not just get it tested? In reality the only other way you'd get piece of mind is if you bought a new lid and let's face it, if you're going for another Arai and you don't get a super-dooper bargain then it'll be expensive.
