I no i should of probably posted this in the New Bikers section, but i thought more people might reply here Very Happy

Most of you will probably tell me to use a bigger bike, but i'm only 17 and i've got a Hyosung XRX 125, i've already ridden 2 hours without stopping once. Pretty comfy, but i want a big journey.

My mate is coming down for a whole week, and we plan on going all the way along the coastline, and camp out a few nights. We're really looking forward to it, but i've got a week to get some gear, so i'd really appreciate any advice Thumbs Up

I'm thinking of getting a tank bag, but most are magnetic, and my tank is quite small and it's plastic, however i could use bungees.

Panniers would be cool, but i don't have a clue which ones would fit my bike, and which ones to get altogether.

Just some long distance accessories really. If anyone could help, that would be great.

Thanks a bunch Thumbs Up

This is my bike, so if it gives you any ideas what would fit on it and what i could get, cheers Wink

You will strugle to find a tank bag to fit on your type of bike. Best bet is to try andget a rack fitted to the rear and then bungie stuff to that. Also i would look at suing a rucksack to carry some stuff.

How do you find the bike. Been looking for a off road bike for winter as i prefer them.

only chance for the tank bag would be the "tank" by kriega. has straps aswell as magnetic.
however given the shape of the bike i couldnt be 100% sure if that would work.

i think iooi idea of a rack on the rear is your only hope. aswell as a rucksack Thumbs Up

where abouts do you live? and where you planning on going? been thinking of doing a trip myself Very Happy

The main thing would be to stick to small roads where you won't constantly be sitting at full revs in top and to pack as light as possible, as extra weight on a bike like that will do it no favours. I would've thought that with a bit of bodging you could get a decentish size bag on the back, or maybe some throwover panniers, depending on exactly where the exhaust is and if it has a decent heatshield.

Thanks guys for all the replies Thumbs Up

i'm gonna look out for a cheap little tank bag that i can just strap round my tank, just below the actual petrol cap, more on the seat really.

i'm not sure what to do about rear luggage Rolling Eyes i'd love a set of panniers, but hearing what a few of you said about needing a rear rack, i'm not sure what to do?

here are a couple of pictures of the 2 rear little bars at either side:

https://i657.photobucket.com/albums/uu299/milkster125/P090809_2015-Optimized.jpg

looking at these, as the other picture didn't do it any justice, do you think that i could get something on here? maybe using some bungees or something?

i appreciate the replies guys, great help Thumbs Up

i recon you could easily secure something down to that. give it a go with a bag full of stuff and ride round town. see what its like.

where abouts do you live, if you dont mind me asking.

looking at those bars I think your best bet would be a waterproof bag/rucksack held on with a cargo net. They hold the bag in place much better than bungees alone as they mould to the shape and grip the whole thing. Always worth throwing a few bungees over aswell for additional support just in case.

Shocked is it really? i thought you had to have 1cm atleast of white around the L?

i got pulled over once for speeding, which was stupid, but you learn by your mistakes, and the rozzer let me off.... luckily Rolling Eyes

he looked all over my bike, and he didn't mention it, plus i've had no end of police cars drive past me, and they'd see it head on, but if your sure it is, i might have to get it changed.

i used to have a plastic L plate just like my rear one, coming off the side, but the force of the wind when riding at high speeds caused it to bend and there were 2 big cracks, so i had to remove it, so i replaced it with that L plate sticker.

thanks for letting me know calyx, you may well have stopped me getting 3 points, cheers mate Thumbs Up

just read back what you put iooi, and i've got a link of a topic that i posted a comment in, it was to a guy in the New Bikers section, asking about his first bike, he had an XRX on his list, so i put loads of stuff on there about it, so if you scroll down what i put, may be some help Thumbs Up

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=179973

since you were asking about off road bikes in general, i'd say go for it, but try as many as you can out, look at some and see what you think, so many off road bikes feel different, but they are really good. I chose the XRX out of all off road bikes mainly because it had that big on road look to it, didn't look like it completely belonged on dirt.

but yeah, depends what you fancy, what engine size and what feels best for you, but i like the fact i have an off road bike, handles well and the suspension is great.

i'll quit blabbering on now, so i hope i've helped buddy Thumbs Up

Sorry for the delay.
L plate size is 8" by 8" . You can't change background size.

+1 for cargo net over a bag.

Maybe a rucksack on your back for light/soft stuff as well. When my mate had his KTM Duke he had to carry a rucksack because there was no way of carrying luggage.

As for the bag strapped to the back - if you can, I'd get one of those dry sacks (ortlieb type thing - clicky) - nowt worse than a soggy sleeping bag after a long ride!

Very recently i went to a campsite ~80 miles away, all A roads, on a 125, a picture of the set up is attached.

Ignoring the back box, i put a sleeping bag, a small roll up "air bed", and the tent, 2 on each side, and one on the pillion seat.

tied them down with a rachet strap (bungies will do) and ontop of that i put a bag on top, and threaded the top hoop, and the back straps, with bungies.

i used the cargo net (as mentioned earlier) to keep any light, loose items there.

my tank bag, although magnetic, has a strap for putting around the front main frame, underneath the handlebars, and a strap to wrap underneath, that would be for plasic tanks such as yours.

if you have back suspension adjusters, adjust them to a high setting.

hope this helps.

Yeah
Just bungee strap it all on

Went camping recently with a hornet, but all i did was:
Roll mat next to tent
Rucksack ontop - arm straps facing down (arm straps as short as they would go)
Bum bag with clear visor and various stuff in it wrapped round the rucksack

Put the roll mat and the tent through the rucksack arm straps
Put on the pillion seat, bungeed them down, threading through rucksack straps + tent carry handle on the bag

Then 2 larger bungees over the top of it all

Didnt move anywhere.

Then i had a rucksack on my back with sleeping bag and other soft stuff

Pic
Loaded up
The tank bag was just for satnav

Cost me less than a tenner for 4 bungee straps from halfords Smile

Thanks guys for all the help, especially deanoet Thumbs Up

Looking at that picture, i can get a rough idea, and from just about everybody, i now realise that bungees would be my best bet Very Happy

I'm basically going to compress everything together at the back just like you have done on your Hornet. I'm hoping to put the sleeping bag, roll mat, and the panniers all at the back compact and tight together with a few bungees.

I'm not spending money on a rack just for the panniers to fit. I can make them fit Wink

I found a picture of 2 bikes similar to mine on google, and they are loaded up just like your Hornet, but being a trail bikes like mine, it's shown me i can do it Mr. Green

This is the picture:

I'm really thankful for the help though guys, and to all those who gave me advice, ride safe Thumbs Up

This is how you do it on a 125.....a tent and enough gear for a long week end camping over 200 miles away from home.

I used a magnetic tankbag, throwover pannier bags, biggest backpack i could find, then bungee corded everything else to the passenger seat and rack on my chinese cruiser 125. Was find for a 200mile trip, and still got good mpg.
Good luck, and get pics!!
