dt exhaust

Hi all, I'm asking this one for a friend, he has a 2005 yamaha DT 125 (do they do a bigger one?) and would like to know if an 04 exhaust can fit it, apparently there is some kind of extra recirculation pipe on his. Someone told him to just cap it off and fit the 04 and it will still be ok but will it? is it not there for a reason ?

I think that the early pipe will pretty much fit but may require a bracket modding (I have an old DT-R ). In truth it would be easier to cut off the pipe and weld over the hole left behind, dont forget that the hole in the airbox will also need blanking off to ensure that there are no air leaks.

AFAIK the later pipes also had a cat inside so he might be better off buying either a DEP or a Big-One expansion chamber and keeping his stock pipe for when he needs to seel - alternatively he can cut it open and remove the cat and then get a welder to re-join it all.
