I'm wondering (due to being a skinny little runt) what is good, bad and worrying.

Some random body-protein-pill site I played on for 2 seconds says:

Quote:
Height: 5 ft. 10 in.
Age: 21
Current Weight: approx 140 lbs
Goal Weight: approx 155 lbs+
steve, here are your BMI results: 20.00

BMI (Body Mass Index) - A measure of weight against height to indicate body fat percentage.
Your BMI is within the normal range of weight for your height.
Weight is not always the true indication of your fitness. The BMI represents a range of healthy weight for your height.

Bullshit. I know I'm quite skinnier than I should be, and I eat lot's, and lot's of stuff(mainly unhealthy junk food crap). I keep aiming to get proper things in my 'diet' like tuna, bread, eggs, milk, fruit etc etc.... but just never break out the habit of buying cheap crap.

What should I be? What's the average and what should I be changing?

Karma for constructive methods/ideas. Thanks. Thumbs Up Cool

There's no real 'average' as it's a pretty blunt tool at measuring overall body composition. It won't take in to account the amount of muscle that you carry therefore Olympic athletes may score as obese (BMI over 25). There are better tools to use but it does give a fairly rough idea without going daft in the detail.

BTW
under 19 - underweight
19-25 - normal
25 - 30 overweight
30+ obese
40+ Fat Arse (technical dietician terminology) Wink

Me? currently 22.5ish. 5 Feet 8 inches and 10stone 11pounds.

Used to be 14.5 eek Shocked

Arrow Underweight = <18.5
Arrow Normal weight = 18.5-24.9
Arrow Overweight = 25-29.9
Arrow Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater

My BMI is 19 so I just make it into the healthy category.

Mine is 24, fine with that.

However as has already been stated, people who are really healthy but quiet muscular will score as 'obese' on the BMI test.

Guy in the gym I go to is spectacularly fit and hugely muscular but is 'morbidly obese' according to BMI. Laughing

Oh, 3 meals a day. Don't skip breakfast. Plenty of protein, carbohydrate for energy, and get to the gym for some decent training. A combination of weight training and aroebic exercise, but don't overdo it.

Diet alone won't help you to put muscle on. Fat, yes, but not muscle. There are really no cheap or quick alternatives.

But lots of sweaty men pumping iron = ghey Rolling Eyes

Lots of sweaty men in bike leathers = win Wink

So it's setting up and maintaining a food plan then?

I don't have strict meal times, I always eat on the go; whatever it may be that I grab when im hungry but I know on average what it'll take to make me not hungry, but not full so i'm tired from a full tummy.

Maybe I need to join a gym for pukka exercise/methods and buy proper food, then eat proper food in a controlled 'dietry' way. I have the basis for an alright body due to a semi-keen interest as a younger 'un, like visible toning etc just not enough of it, and too thin-a-body. Thumbs Up

I still maintain I have the heaviest/thickest bones in the world. I'm admittedly fairly muscular, but I have next to no fat left on me and I'm still 14.5+ at 6'4. Which puts me at a BMI ~24.

Hate BMI. Unrepresentative shite.

BMI for blokes is bollocks.
When i was heavily training last year my bmi barely changed while my bodyfat went down lots and when i was at my lowest bf% (17.5) my bmi was still above 25.

Apparently its now 29.6 Eh?
This despite i go kickboxing twice a week, have a manual warehouse job which i cycle to and from daily and train with kettlebells at least twice week at home and have a 33" waist........ but according to bmi i'm an overwieght unfit and in danger slob Smile

My BMI was 20.1 last time I checked.

BMI is pure tripe anyway and I wish the media would stop peddling it.

Use hip-waist ratio for a true(r) measure of your fatness.

I think BMI is a load of rubbish, I am at the lower end, cant put weight on for love nor money, only thing that seems to help is the build up shakes from asda? I am a bit of a short arse anyway, I often think I would like to be a little more curvey but hey, I am me lol

I would suggest you find a weight you are happy with yourself at? everyone is different, and just try to eat healthily?

Thin and short?, no woman I've ever spoke to is unhappy about that kind of build. Wink

I'm like 30/32in trousers waste, a 16collar for shirts and when I check in the mirror; I'm semi happily toned but when I see my ribs outlined etc makes me 'sick', I'm not sure it's all that normal. Wish my arms were more muscular/built too.. that is my aim, overall body build even if only slightly just not madly depressively weight lifting - gaining weight has always been an issue for me. At 16 I was the slightest bit 'fatter' more-so in the face, but not now.... Crying or Very sad

well you have now lol, I am better than I was, I have a bit of an issue with my blood sugar and lose weight really easily, am relatively happy right now at the weight I am at,

I had a back injury a fair few years ago, my arms compensate for my muscle damage in my back, so lifting kids, dealing with horses etc etc. I have what could be termed as "decent" biceps Sad so with not much curviness I often feel I look like a bloke in drag in any girlie clothes Rolling Eyes and cant be arsed to grow my hair long

your build doesnt sound to bad? I find gyms boring as hell, have you ever tried martial arts? thats good for toning up. other than that eat lots of porridge Laughing

Maybe yourself, vee and I could take a trip to the large men's store.

I am overweight, but a few months ago my BMI was over 31. I'm chubby, but I'm certainly not obese. If all my "excess" muscle was removed I'd probably be on the short end of overweight. Sad
