I timed it perfectly when listing my items on ebay so that when they sold, the buyer would pay that day & the funds would be in my account this coming Saturday, perfect for when i pick the new car up.

But NO. Both buyers have messed this plan up by not paying when they won, it's now the next day & even after messaging them i get no response! Seriously.

Also, my selling fees are £100 from selling less then 10 things.

Fuck ebay. Middle Finger

How can you time when someone will pay you perfectly?

I usually expect them to pay that day, then when paying that day it would take 4-5 days to clear which would of been when i'm picking the car up.

I've just bought a couple of bits of eBay, (grudgingly!!) If it's a buy it now then fair do's, payment can be made straight away but for an auction? Naw, I don't see how you can.

I know folk try and time them for say, the evening. But I don't think one could ever rely on prompt payment on auctions.

eBay is horrible anyway, the idea that you can get cheap deals is fatuous for the majority of the time. No longer au fait with their charging schemes but any charges I'd grudge paying out of principle.

Thumbs Up

I'll totally agree. Most of the time i get payment straight after the auction has finished but it just seems typical that when i need the money most, they don't pay that day. Laughing

Ebay needs to have a rival very soon as you not only get stung by ebay charges, but paypal took another £8.00 when i sold one of my items, that's ridiculous.

As far as I'm aware you can only do that with Buy It Now listings.

eBay is a bit crazy to be honest as are those slightly frantic sounding people who swear by it, they go all wide-eyed and evangelical, a bit like those who extol the virtues of Apple stuff.

I group these people in the same category as those who think saying 'ENDOF' automatically wins an argument.

Imagine going into Tesco, being charged if you buy something (over and above what the item cost) then having to pay to use a Tesco credit card because they won't accept anything else.

No where else does it, paying to advertise an item, paying a portion of what it goes for then having to pay another portion of what it went for via paypal, then paying to withdraw the money...

Crazy.

I guess their taking advantage of having no rivals, which is very surprising, seeing how much money can be made. Which means they can charge high fees & not having to worry about us going anywhere else.

usual reason for not paying immediately is because they're not online, they might only check their mail a couple of times a week.

there are lots of alternatives to ebay; other online auction sites, freeads, gumtree, advertise on forums, advert in the window of your local news agents, the list goes on. ebay can charge the fees they do because they have lots of buyers which means you generally get a good price for what you're selling.

they're a business, not a charity. don't like their fees? well don't use ebay, it really is that simple Smile

Not everybody sits at their computer salivating manically as the auction draws to a close.

I often just use bidding software to stick my max bid in at the end. I'll get an email if I've won and then pay next time it's convenient.

If you needed instant cash, you should have just sold it the normal way Rolling Eyes

I only use it to buy stuff and even then, if the seller has a shop I'll ring up.

One vote for gumtree here, it has the added advantage of the dating section which frankly has the largest selection of nutballs and saddo's advertising, its really entertaining.

Obviously I only look at it, I'd never use it... I mean, I don't need to... Why would I...

Ummm...

There was an advert on the Edinburgh Car section, it was for a white 98 fiat punto, 78k on the clock, S60 model (?) The word they'd used to describe it was 'stunning!' Laughing

I imagine the only time a person could ever be 'stunned' by a Fiat Punto is if it ran you over.

Oooh, I don't know, I've been stunned twice by a Fiat Punto.

The first time was when my dad came home with one, in Pink, with no warning that he was replacing his car.

The second time was when I drove it, and on turning the wheel to negotiate a corner all it did was roll to one side then understeer straight on.

Fecking awful vehicles.

I'm not even going to click on that link, you just know its going to be horrific.

I suppose that would do it right enough.

I just have this mental imagery of a person being presented with a car and saying; "Oh my, I, I, I, I'm at a loss for words... It's just, Oh my... G'ah! I'm stunned... I mean I just never thought... You know? Up close? Like this? What a vehicle... Oh my... When's it taxed until?"

Much like estate agents describing flats as 'stunning.' What!?! Does it have low ceilings or something?

Anyway, eBay, yes, it sucks balls and people should cough up promptly! [/on topic]

Now that i think about it, it does seem a bit wrong to expect instant payment, was just this time when i really needed the money. & usually they always pay straight after.

I would expect instant postage after instant payment, but no........... , buggers take ages to send the items.

I always pay as soon as I know I have won the item, which is usually immediately as I try to only put my bid on within the last 20 seconds so there is less chance of getting outbid.

It was called Yahoo! Auctions, but Ebay virtually closed it down overnight.

That's like asking someone to rival Google as an entity, Even Microsoft can't cope against them. Shocked Confused Laughing

If it's 4 or longer days since the auction ended, file an item not paid dispute.

Ebay sent me a satisfaction survey recently. Just had to fill it out honestly..... Twisted Evil

I deleted that post but since you brought it back up Smile I will file a complaint. I've already told one of the buyers not to bother paying & awaiting the other payment.

I'm guilty myself, I recently won a bike part but I've not paid for it in over a week, because I'm waiting to sell another bit first before I can buy it, I'd actually planned selling it before now.. Embarassed
