Basically I might have a choice by the end of the week out of two jobs.
Little bit of background about me - I used to be a audio/visual technician and was on a pretty good wage, until the company went bust in March, making me redundant in the process.
Luckily I managed to get a job strimming for the council - but I absolutely hate it, plus it's seasonal, so come the end of next moth they will be kicking me out. Main reasons I hate it are how boring it is, the job is easy, but I am a fairly clever guy, it's just making me frustrated out of boredom!
I'm trying to get a decent job but everything so far this year has fallen through, as it's getting so close to the end of my contract I am once again searching for whatever I can get.
The 2 jobs I might possibly get offers for are-
Multidrop driver delivering pharmacy goods about. Doing about 45-50 hours a week at £6 an hour. Also, this is a temp job for 13 weeks, when the company decide if they want to keep me.
The other job is a full time permanent contract, with a big superstores home shopping department working in their warehouse on night shifts. I would only work 4 out of 3 days, but these days move around, so I could be on weekends etc. Pay works out at about £8.50 an hour. 38 hours per week.
So, do I take the nice easy, but awfully paid multidrop driver, where I will earn just enough to get by, and possibly not have a job from it after 13 weeks, or do I take the permanent job, earn a fair bit more so I can start paying off debt I owe, but in the process probably ruin myself working the night shift?
Anyone done the nightshift like this? How did you adapt? How where the days off?
Cheers for any advice in advance! ____________________ Currently Riding - 2002 Aprilia RSV1000 Mille |

Go for the perm supermarket one.
At least that way if you struggle to cope, you can at least look for another job.
Unlike the temp multi-drop where you are stuck racing around all day.....
Never mind the increased risk to your licence ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

Night shifts do suck, but I'll say this for em, they fly by.
Oh, and Tuesdays are my off days, so I work Mon/Weds/Thurs/Fri... so I'm forcing myself to stay up on Tuesdays to save agro. I would /much/ prefer a solid block, so be careful. Random nights would suck, but a rolling block (4 on 4 off) would be ok.
Would I do it for 'normal' wage? Like fuck. For better money though? It's been better then expected to be honest.
Plus lack of management is delightful ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...
From September 2014 to January/February 2015 I will not be using any English, nor reading any. As such, I won't be on here. PM at will, but I won't be checking/posting unless in emergencies. Certainly not for the first couple of months. Please berate me savagely if I break that rule... |
