Stargazerfags.... ASSEMBLE!

So tonight is the peak night for the perseids meteor shower and I was just wondering if any of you lot will be going out somewhere remote to gaze upon this wonder.
The best time will supposedly be between 2 and 4am tonight, so I'm thinking of heading out for midnight, weather permitting (it's a bit cloudy in my locale at the moment) to just generally stargaze.
Taking the missus, some grub and my small telescope from when I was a young warthog, as I doubt my dad's telescope would fit in her little Aygo.

Will hopefully get my willy wet whilst I'm at it.

The meteors will be most prominent between 2-4. However like you said the moon is a twat, and will cause some of the lesser meteors to be less visible.

Easy by naked eye don't worry.
I'm only taking the 'scope to check out stars and see if I can catch an early glimpse of Jupiter.

Caught a couple last night.

Had an excellent view of a meteor shower many years ago, was up in Scotland where it was a lot easier to find proper darkness - out on a moor in the middle of nowhere lying on the roof of the car.

Had a nice view from the top of a hill today, though the cloud cover got quite at about 11:20.

Saw about 10 meteors, which I didn't think was too bad - nice ride aswell.

Clouds cleared up my end from 9pm through to 11ish. Then occupied the skies. No meteors, but had a tasty sandwich and fizzy pop.

Shooorley if best time is between 2-3 then it will be Tomorow ya walley....
I watched for them on Wednesday from the top of the garden.
Saw three within 5 mins but only a tiny bit of sky visible because of the trees.

I had a wee look out, but it was rubbish. The Perseids are always over played, the Leonids (in March time I think) are as good, (or bad depending on your view...)

They seemed to be coming in at 1 or 2 over 5 minutes, noit a high ratio at all. I was out 11th-12th just before midnight then again at about 1:30am. As mentioned, the moon spoiled it a wee bit sitting as it was smack in the middle of Andromeda for a large part of the night, that is where most meteors can be seen...

The best tool for meteor observing is an old school SLR with a long exposure function. I have many a memory at my old astronomy club gesticulating wildly as cars would come up the farm track ignoring the signs we put up telling them to switch their headlights off...

I don't think we ever got a decent picture... We did one year manage to record some on a makeshift radio telescope which was thrilling... Ummm...
