Looking to start biking after many years driving a car and was wondering if you guys think the 650 Bandit is a suitable first ride when I pass my test. Very Happy

Went from nothing to the old oil-cooled Bandit 600 so yes, you should be fine.

Get bungs or crash bars though, cos you will drop it. Very Happy

I'm assuming you will be doing DAS? If so then yes a bandit would be fine as a first bike. It will feel similar in size and handling to the Er-5/cb500 typically used by riding schools.

It's much bigger and heavier.

Bandit is an OK first bike but there are many better ones out there.

Check out a Honda Hornet/Yamaha Fazer/Triumph Speed Four.

All better spec'd than the bandit and much much lighter.

Can't fault it.

Great bike for the novice, also as other people have mentioned, it is a heavy bike but once you get used to handling it, no problems at all.

This was/is my first bike after passing

As always my advice is buy nothing until you pass your test. Then you can go to a dealer or two, take each bike out you fancy, Bandit, Hornet and so on then make your choice.

When I passed my test I tried a bandit 1200, Z1000, CBR600 and a couple of other big bikes.

I ended up taking the CBR600, just felt the most comfortable on the day and loved every minute of it despite it not being on my list of wants.

Always best to leave your options open, nothing worse than setting your target on one without trying a few.

Hornet Thumbs Up
but im completely biased. Laughing

I dont like the style of the bandit as much,
Fazers are cool (new shape), but the old ones look abit shite.
Speed four is awesome, best of british Very Happy
