my car is currently up for sale at £3900 on autotrader and today I get these 2 emails. Now the slightest mention of bankers draft has me thinking scam.

1st Email

Quote:
Good Morning,
I am really interested in your Vehicle listed for sale on auto trader website.
I will like to know if you still have it for sale.
Are you the first owner?
Did you have all the paper work and the receipt of purchase for documentation?
What is your last asking and the present condition?
The area for the pick up and lastly the reason for offering it for sale.
Thanks and i look forward to hear from you today ASAP
Cheers
Mrs Maxwell

I replied to that one and got this back.

Quote:
Good Evening,
Thanks for your quick response and am also excited to hear from you that the vehicle is still available for sale.
And thanks for the information you just gave about the vehicle and am quite delighted to hear from you that the vehicle is still in great conditions.
The reason why am purchasing this vehicle is because My self and my husband just need one additional vehicle.

Please i want you to email me more pictures aside from the one on web advert page if is still available both the exterior and interior.
Due to my condition i will not be able to view the vehicle at present because i'm heavily pregnant, and the distance as well.
My personal circumstances do not allow me to travel, like wise my husband is away on a business trip.
According to the Features of the vehicle and the Full Description of the vehicle which i saw on the advert page i'm fully satisfied.

I want you to accept my offer of £4,100 inclusive the advert fees just because I know what the worth of the vehicle and more so what you' ve stated about the vehicle details in the advert page and the maintenance of the vehicle you've spent so far since you bought the vehicle, and also for you to reserve the vehicle for me.
The only way you will release the vehicle to any one is when the cash is in your hand, i.e. payments cleared at bank, and withdrawn.

We are located in Wales.
I will only required your full name and your postal address, so that the bankers draught could be posted to you via royal mail.
My preffered method of payment is by bankers draft in a (GBP) which may take 3 to 5 working days to Clear.

I hope to hear from you today in order to proceed further with the payment and shipping arrangements as soon as possible.
I look forward to hear back from you today.
Cheers
Mrs Maxwell

Offering £200 above asking price. Wink

I'm going to reply and string them along for a while

really what kind of person who lives in wales, would put 'bankers draft in GBP' ??

I grew up in Wales. We used pebbles as currency. I lived near a quarry. The rate of inflation was incredible.

What is a "bankers draught"? A load of guff?

SCAM......

No need for a bankers draft and the 5 days....

For that amount you can do a faster payment, that will be in your account in under 2 hours.
More often than not its less than a minute.

Too many straight forward gaffs in that long email.

Worst being that she wants more pics, yet if offering above your asking price..
Even the Welsh arn't that daft.....

Tell her to send the Bankers Draft, and that the car is hers if she wants.
But you will need the draft to be cleared by the bank for 7 days and make it a special presentation.

You will then drive the car to her address once its cleared as you don't want a pregnant woman having to travel Wink

Just add that you hope her husband, Robert is enjoying his boat trip Laughing and not to do too much swimming Wink

Baiting is so old and boring now, but it's disturbing that you didn't see that the first email was a scam after reading the first line or two.

You selling the 540? What are you replacing it with?

Very bad advice about letting the draft clear - it may well appear to clear into your account but if it turns out to be stolen or forged it may be up to six months before the bank realise, they will then take the money back from your account.

A bankers is a cheque written by a bank. When you present it into your bank account, it shoul clear instantly. A bankers draught is as good as cash, and safer as it can only be cashed by the named person, like a crossed cheque.

They can be faked though, or stolen, I would rather have cash and if I was given a draft by anyone I'd tell them I'd want to take it down the bank before they get the vehicle to make sure. But this is all scam stuff anyway.

Yes, it does seem a little dodgy. Yes they can be stolen or forged, but once your bank clears it, they cant return the money. I would also wait until i have the funds cleared.

The word "insidious" springs to mind . . .

Although the syntax of the letter/s so far sound more eastern european.
