I've not cleared this with 'erindoors yet (so still a bit Hollands in the sky at the mo) but thinking before I'm put out to pasture would like a race rep - Gsxr appeals but unsure if I'll still be as thrilled in the depths of winter using for my 40 mile commute round trip.

Anybody care to comment that uses their Gixxer etc daily?

if it's a new gixxer then you'll have the added option of the A B C switch same as me, comes in very handy when it's pissing it down/snowing or just the roads are freezing cold. I've ridden mine through all weathers and can't fault it, just make sure to get a gel seat for about £70. Thumbs Up

what year?

Any one from 85-present day would be fine for a motorway commute. Would be a bit of a chore in town tho.

I do about that a day on my 750, it's good fun but it does take its toll on the bike, especially tyres - if you want the sticky stuff it kills them Sad Sad

Thanks for the responses.

Would be looking at a K7/8.

Just a bit worried it wouldn't be the best bike to tackle rush hour traffic on in pissy Monday morning weather. Perhaps Sunday morning hoons on it would make up for any downside!

If it is solely for commuting I wouldn't advise a GSXR, what about getting 2 bikes one for a commute one for fun? The GSXR won't be cheap either on tyres/fuel/servicing.

Personally I wouldn't use an expensive new bike for commuting out of choice because of the depreciation; if you consider it a good use of money, fair enough

The main reason a sports bike is questionable is the seating position - if you're comfortable on it, then there shouldn't be a problem. Going from a KTM trail bike to my ZX9 I did get some upper back pain. Turned out my rather heavy Caberg helmet was putting a lot of weight on my more-leant-over head. Swapped for a Shoei I had lying around and it was fine again.

On that, having ridden both the trail bike and the sports bike (my zx9 has rearsets as well), I found the sports bike much better because the bars are narrower. While the trail bike's bars go over car mirrors, being wide there's still some gaps you can't physically get through, which the narrower sports bike can.
Also, I can keep the luggage on the sports bike narrow (I have lap-top tank bag and back box for gym stuff/food.)

Sports bikes tend to be a bit more powerful than some other similar capacity bikes, so you have to be a bit more careful in the cold perhaps, but that's a good idea whatever, really.
They do tend to be light though, which can often be a good thing.
