While looking for a jacket I tried on some pants as well, knee protection didnt seem to be where I thought it should be, what do you guys think about just wearing slip on knee pads like skateboarders wear, and also is there such a product like shorts with hip protection in rather than full pants then you could....put on your protective shorts, wear your ordinary jeans or whatever and just slip your knee pads over the top.

It wasnt too bad when leg was straight but when bent it rode up, like pants do in general, surely it would be better if the protection surrounded the knee no matter what angle, its the pants that make it ride up.

you said about slipping your jeans over the top?
kevlar jeans look like absolutely normal jeans, but there armoured and strengthened.

great for riding in, and walking round town Thumbs Up

I was told in the shop I got my trousers from that the knee pads should sit a bit lower than the knee when standing, then when sitting on the bike they line up where they should be. Thumbs Up

that sounds right, the ones I tried on the pads were above when sat down but I still believe they should be strapped to your knee, you have no idea what position your leg is going to be in during an accident. A set of leathers is ok whilst scraping along the tarmac but they wont stop impact injuries, I want some kind of padding round mi bits Wink

Sound like the ones you tryed on were the wrong size. They should be tight, but if they're riding up when you bend your leg, sounds like they could be too tight.

My leathers are very close fitting, but without feeling "tight". Bit baggy round my arse when standing, but everything else stays in place, sitting or standing irregardless.

And neither will the pads stop it....

Nothing will stop impact injuries, unless you have airbags all round.

The only way to find out if they are in the correct position is to get on your bike.
As the diffrence between the position when riding a sports bike and a cruiser is a hell of a lot in terms of ride up.

I thought the same thing too but when your knee is bent on your bike the armour should be drawn up to rest against your knee.

I'd not be too keen on 'slip on' pads as those might be moved away from your knee in an impact.

iooi is right, they won't stop impact injuries, but they will reduce them. That's why I'm currently walking with a limp instead of with crutches and a cast.

I just bought a great pair of ladies armoured under-trousers. They're lycra, with pockets in for knee, hip and lower spine armour. Got them from Hein G, £50 in the sale (usually £70). Looking forward to wearing them in the winter.
