Hi Folks
Gotta do 300mile round trip from peterborough to manchester in a couple of days.
Never ridden more than 100 miles in one day before
Any tips or advice as it may be 5-6hrs riding depending on road/traffic conditions.
Got to use A1 /M1 but going to break it up by using the A616(Highly Recommended apparently.)
Cheers |

Hear what your saying, but riding for 6hrs isn't the same as riding for 1 hour is it? |

Check the weather forecast and wear the right kit. If you get wet, remember there are hand dryers in service stations. If you get cold, I've heard a newspaper down the front of your jacket works wonders. ____________________ VFR400 NC30 > Kawasaki ZX6R > YAMAHA YZF-R1 > Moto Morini Corsaro Veloce |

Be fine, just take it easy and settle in for a longer ride
Dont set off with your hair on fire.
Set a speed on the motorway that is comfortable and stick to it.
Keep eye on fuel. Prob not as much of a problem on the Bandit, but a petrol station is a Hornets second home. Keep your eye on it
i have done 150 miles in one lump (+ fuel stop) before up to newcastle.
On A roads I tend to find a car going decent speed and tuck in behind it, especially at night as my lights are crap. a BMW 3 series has lights for us both. ____________________ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm gonna be doing the same sort of mileage in the next couple of days upto loch ness (just camping out for a couple of days).
I'll be giving the bike a full check over first.(tyres, chain, oil, bearings, lights e.t.c.)
Having done quite a few long distance trips on bikes i know to dress for the worst so plenty of layers underneath my bike gear and full waterproofs on from the off.(even if it's not raining it's excellent for keeping the wind chill out)
Wear the thickest gloves you have and also thick socks.(it gets cold real quick)
Ear plugs and full face mask are a must for me on a motorway.
Nice easy cruise the whole way ____________________ DRZ-400sm |

I did 430 miles just to see the Isle of Man from Scotland.
Just sit back and enjoy the journey. Stick some music on your phone/iplayer or whatever, stop when you feel you need a break or fuel and take your time. A 300 mile trip is nothing to worry about, just treat it as a normal ride on the bike, when you get there you will wonder why you were worrying in the first place.
Most of all though, stay alert and ride safe ____________________ Enjoy everyday, tell those you love everyday you love them

Agree with the above. While it might be alot for you as you've never done it before, it really isn't far. The bike will be fine, you have a nice comfortable seat and position on the Bandit aswell.
All you need to do is treat it like an every day ride. If the petrol light comes on, stop for petrol, you will never struggle for petrol stations. If you need a drink/rest/eat, pull over and do these things. Other than that...just keep on riding!
You will be fine ____________________ Currently Riding - 2002 Aprilia RSV1000 Mille |

I can go to my mates house, about 30 minutes away, and take 3 hours. Love it but i seem to keep running my tank down.
I have been known to fill up the hornet 3 or 4 times in one day. |

This week I will be riding Stoke to Newcastle then Newcastle to Llanelli and finally back to Stoke. I reckon thats about 800 miles ish. I don't have an ipod and find myself wondering about things such as if the knowledge of mortality is good or what stops planets from falling out of the universe. By the time I've pondered over this junk I'm usually there. If not then I'll probably move onto a bit of evolution theory, dino to sparrow?
TBH I really don't set myself a timetable, I get there when I get there. I stop when I feel like it and if I want a nap then I'll pull over. Enjoy it, the weathers as good as it gets and your on a bike.
+1 on the breakdown recovery. I can't be arsed with messing about and its a great excuse for not getting to where your supposed to be. ____________________ https://www.metacafe.com/watch/1972097/how_to_behave_on_a_forum/ |

What trousers you got?
I have spadas and bulletproof jeans.
The jeans are great for sitting a bit longer but be warned TIGHT well fitting boxers are a must or you need to prepare for some serious seat shuffling!
