Saw something weird on the A13 this morning, ideas?

Going towards London at around 8am I see an oldish black BMW in front doing about 50 and it has a rear left wheel that is the same thickness as something off a CG125! The other wheels are nice and wide. What's that about then? A temporary fix and he was on his way to a garage perhaps? I'm perplexed by this one, any ideas folks?

It's the spare wheel. It's called a space saver which allows the boot to be bigger.

Proper cars dont have them.

Generally called a 'space saver' as opposed to a full size spare wheel. He will of got a puncture and had to stick that on.

It's what's known as a space-saver spare tyre - my BMW has one. Supposed to take up less room in the boot but it sits in a spare wheel well that a regular wheel would fit in so I think they just fit them because they're cheaper.

It's a space saver (the one posted above is apparently designed by 'Brum') in the case of a puncture it shows a distinct lack of imagination and is conducive to the erosion of driving skill observed over the past few years.
