I was thinking of getting one of these - YBR250 - after I pass my test

Anyone know anything about 'em, web is a bit sketchy on detail!

All I know is they are new to the UK market but have been about elsewhere for a while now. It seems similar to the Honda CBF250 I'd imagine. Would say slightly less fuel economy than a 125 4 stroke single, like the YBR or Honda CG. About 20bhp from what I remember so not the most powerful out there, but I'm sure it would hold 70 on the motorway just fine and be a fair bit nippier than it's little 125 brother. I saw one at a dealer recently and it appealed to me as something with a bit more poke than my 125 but with similar running costs, as I ride primarily because I'm poor and it's the cheapest form of transport for me to commute on. I also liked the look of it, and if it's reliability is anything like what my YBR125 has been, then it could be a winner. Being a Yamaha I wouldn't think you could go far wrong with it, although it'll be expensive because there aren't really any used examples about yet. Thumbs Up

Hi
I saw one couple of weeks ago in my yammy dealer, im sure it was £3500, a bit steep i thought as you could prolly get a good 2nd hand 600 for that. Looks almost identical to the 125 just a bit bigger.

I see......... I haven't yet seen one in the 'flesh'.

My thoughts were that it will be a stepping stone to a bigger bike

Appreciate that I could get a cheap 600 - and restrict it for 2 years if I had to though!

I have its little brother at the moment and although they won't win any prizes for looks, they are very reliable and pretty damn comfortable to ride, and very good on fuel. With the 250 version you should get a bit more fun out of it too. But at £3,500 i'd go for a 600 and get it restricted. Seems like a lot of money for a commuter bike.

If you want a 250 forget the Yam at that price and look at the Kawasaki 250R a far better bike for the money.

Check out the link.

That's a very old article. The Ninja 250 is now £3999 and for that money, you could get a far better bike elsewhere. A friend of mine picked up a pre-registered SV650 for £3,800.

If you had the choice of the Yam or Kawa and nothing else and you had to have one which would you buy?

i'd agree with going for more of a used 600, you could spend less than £3k and find something very reliable.

i ride a restricted 600 and its more than quick enough for the motorway etc - plus feels a lot more substantial than what imagine the ybr250 might (i used to have a ybr125, now i've moved up i can't believe i repeatedly rode across the country on L plates and those tiny little tyres at 55mph, hehehe).
