I just bought some Heartech Silentear plugs for 7 quid. They seem ok, nearly as good as disposables and should be cheaper in the long run.

Custom made plugs from ultimate ear cancel sound out really well! 40db is knocks off and with my shoei wind shirt which is hardly noticeable i ride with a comforting noise level. It hasn't changed my perception of speed at all really

I also have the Ultimate Ear plugs and asked beforehand regarding the SNR, I received the following reply:

The SNR of the UEP87 is approx 34.5db and the UEP88 is slightly lower.


Whilst I'm happy with the plugs and think they're good, I would realistically put the SNR lower than 34db.

Having tried many different plugs at varying noise reduction levels I would have to say that my UEP87 are not as effective as a disposable 34db SNR plug.

The only plug to offer a SNR close to 40db is the EAR-FX plug at 39db and when I could get them in and they didn't cause my ears to dry out and bleed they were very effective.

I am partially deaf in both ears, due to over exposure to noise in my younger days, some of it due to motor cycle noise no doubt. I wear two hearing aids and nowdays (too late) turn them off when on the bike and they act as earplugs. I would recommend everyone use earplugs as being a deaf old codger is not fun, It doesn't half quieten the bike though and hides all the rattles and bangs on my old scoot Very Happy

Yeh seems as thought the figures on the site are lower. Oddly enough i came from those disposable ones you posted to the moulds and for me the latter was an improvement but quite a significant amount. I was told from the guy who moulded my ears that i had quite a bendy ear canel so perhaps those disposable ones weren't as good. But with skirt n moulds im pretty happy with the result. I couldn't go without now, especially after djing

If he's wearing in ear style earphones then the wind noise will be blocked by these in the same manner as a foam ear plug will do. Therefore, it'll be windnoise - circa 25db + music.

Give us a laugh then - how much do these super duper butt I mean bike plugs cost?
