Hi all, I am changing my chain on my bike. I do not have a tool to flay the pins of the new chain link. Now would a punch and a hammer do the trick to flay them? Or do you have another method?
Sorry for being in the wrong area but need an answer sharpish.
Thanks everyone
Bod

I would reccomend you use a proper tool... ride it (slowly) to a garage after getting the plate on and get them to do it.

Right, I will do that then, wasn't going to pay 120 quid for the tool. Does any one have one in the north west particularly Rochdale Very Happy

Im sure they are less than a fiver?

link removers are cheap, but sports bikes need the chaint o be broken, then refixed by re-riviting it.

personally as said above i would get a master link put in, ride slowly to a garage and have them rivet the chain.

The rivveting kits can be got from about £50, this includes a press and chain splitter as well usually.

I usually use an angle grinder to split chains myself.

Hi

Think my riviting kit cost about £40. Probably not up for continuous use but seems fine for occasional use.

For splitting chains I have a Whale one. Works well. Basically clamp the chain in place, put the pin into the tool and then beat hell out of it with a hammer.

All the best

Keith
