I'm not even sure you can cash a cheque straight into someone elses account, but say you can then yes they are liable to pay tax on any interest earned on it as it is considered their money. However you don't pay any tax when you cash money into your account which is what your question sounds like.

As for CCJs, they will be on your credit report which you can apply for, google will tell you who can give you one. No idea about debts being written off.

I assume you are in a sticky monertry situation.

That the chq is in your name, but you don't want any creditiors to know about the money.
You maybe able to pay into their account, but you would have to wait for it to clear before they would give you the money. 8 working days is how long they need to wait to ensure that the bank can't reclaim the money.

Here gives some time info

But i would really advise talking to these guys cccs they are a non profit debt advise charity who give very good advise and can help to sort out problems.

As to ccj etc. Just google for credit reference agencies and you will find a few.
Many offer 30 day free trial, but you will need to enter card details to get this.
Just follow their procedure and cancel before the 30 days for the trial.
If you use Quido you can sign up and get money back for doing so.

Its not to go into my account as it stands at present.

You can sign a cheque over providing it's not crossed as 'Account Payee' only. Once upon a time cheques were 'open' then the Banks started printing the two vertical lines on for you to write A/C Payee only in and on my current cheque books it's actually printed. Therefore it will depend on the Bank and physical cheque as to whether you will be able to 'sign over'.

I believe that there are places on the High Street that advertise they will cash cheques. I've never used one and AFAIK they charge quite a whack to do it.

Credit checking link that may be useful. Even if it isn't on this occasion, I'd thoroughly recommend the Money Saving Expert site as a place to go for good financial information that's fairly easy to find. Thumbs Up

The free trial is of expensive schemes that they are trying to sell. They are legally obliged to give you the info they hold on you for a nominal cost under the data protection act.

All the best
