PostPosted: 17:18 - 13 Jul 2009    Post subject: DSA Screwup - Mod1/Mod2 Reply with quote

Three weeks before my CBT expires i have my Mod1 and Mod2 booked, i pass the Mod1 without problem, off i go a few days later to do my Mod2 and i get told that the instructor at the testing centre filled out the certificate part of my Module 1 incorrectly, stating that i passed on the DAS 500cc bikes instead of the A2 125cc that i did it on, this is impossible as i am only 19.

This meant that my Module 1 was now useless and that i could not participate in the Module 2, losing the expensive booking fee.

I have been trying to get hold of the DSA but i am getting no response out of them, this is clearly their administration error i have the paperwork part of my Module 1 proving i completed the test on a 125cc bike.
They were originally trying to blame me for not checking the cirtificate when i signed it, i signed two things, the paperwork (saying A2) and the cirtificate (saying A). When you book and pay for something you don't expect to be given something else, i trusted the examiner and was far too overjoyed at the moment from finding out i had passed to be reading through smallprint.

Because of their error and having been unable to sort this out with them my CBT has expired. Now they owe me for a Module 1 test, the booking fee for a Module 2 test, and the inconvenience of having to do my CBT again.

Possibly going to have to take them to court (but they are the government....what do i do)

any opinions?

Why do i get the idea this is the first time they have messed up like this and they have no idea what to do about it.

Be persistent and keep contacting DSA and give them every opportunity to sort it out, don't threaten with legal action straight away, that will only get their back up.
Be polite and give them every opportunity to sort it out.
I know its a pain, but if it does become a legal issue, you will have done the right thing.
Atleast in court they can't say your the one thats been difficult about the situation.

Sorry to hear your in this position because of other people's mistakes... as per usual!

If I were you I would keep ringing them and try to speak to different people- one of them might have the answer you are looking for. Your going to have to keep being polite though, you dont want to get their backs up.

Was it your own bike you used or one from a training centre?

Hope you get this sorted Smile

Thanks, it was a bike from a training centre.
The instructor from the training centre has also been trying to get hold of the DSA on my behalf, no luck yet.

They should reschedule your part1 free of charge, you should also get the time your instructor charges you for the bike for the test ( not any time before hand though) Your fee for part2 can just be moved to the next test.
It is a good example of why you shouldn't leave it two years on a CBT before taking your test. Two years is a long time and mistakes can happen, people are only human. What would have you done if you had failed with only a week left on your CBT?
Do be polite as the person who you are dealing with didn't make the error, they are the ones trying to sort it out.

Bad luck. Sad That's pants!
Taking them to court will be more hassle and cost you more than the mod 1 & 2, CBT and a new bike's worth.
Check their complaints procedure. They should also have an Ombudsman to complain to. Be persistent. They have to answer you.
