Clutch "problems"

Not really a problem, but can anyone tell me why;

sometimes the gears dont want to pop in (only at low speeds) for me to get them in i have to let the clutch out a bit (till bite)and "crunch them in". rarely happens but annoying.

can i adjust this somehow to make sure the gears go in all the time 100%? is it the paltes wearing? and i can adjust it with the cable?

As i say its mostly between 1,2,3 gears and happens mostly when i for example am in 3 then stop and have to drop 2 gears, but feels like the gears dont actually select. so i have to do the gay clutch bite thing, to get the gears in.

what as opposed to block changing?

sequential changing is long though!

TBH im not sure it that will help, because whenever its happened, it was on the first kick down of the gear rod/lever.

Its because the gears won't click into place unless you are doing a sensible speed for that gear.

So for example if first does up to 40mph and 2nd does 35-50 mph (as an example). Third does 45-60.

If you are in third doing 45 and you change down to first then first won't engage easily until you drop to within the range of that gear. Its difficult to explain but it also depends on engine revs. Basically all of the gears in the gearbox turn all of the time (afaik) and in order to engage a gear the two cogs need to be turning at the same sort of rate (afaik).

I'm sure someone can explain it better than I can.

Blipping the throttle on downchanges might also help.

i see your point, but that not the case.

A classic senario.

im in town in 3rd, 30mph. start to brake, becasue there is a red light for example, clutch in, try hitting down a couple of cogs to put it into first, but the lever feels like it isnt clicking through. Feels like there is no click at all, like the box is empty.

Then to correct it, i let the cluch out a bit (till bite), and the box clicks slightly "into action". pull the clutch back in fully again and drop the 2 cogs and its fine.

the bike does 60mph in first so the gearing vs speed is not the problem.

its doesnt happen very often, but is annoying when it does happen...

if it could be fixed easily, with adjustment that would be cool. it not worth taking apart over though. I would like to know why it does this, and if there is a quick/easy fix.

It might still be the gearing Vs speed problem, Try blipping the throttle before you change down and see if that helps.

The engine speed still needs to closely match the rotating clutch in order for the gearbox to click into place. This is inevitably faster for first than for third.

Try it and see!

Hi

Think you are going to have to let the clutch out between gears. Basically the linkage inside the gearbox is not reseating itself between gears.
