125cc, first bike

Hi guys. I am 19yo and need a bike to drive to college. Its only 6 miles but have to use 2 buses which takes 40 minuts if lucky. Besides its 550 for tickets per year and prices goes up every 2 months (first bus company).


My budget is around 1000 pounds, max 1100 for a bike.

I am trying to figure out what 125cc I am going to get for it.
Would prefer 4 stroke, sporty looking bike.

CBR looks alright but dont know if its not too small for me as Im 6ft.

Sachs XTC is very rare and often overpriced, cheacking the web for bargins every day.

03 Gilera dna 180 registated as 125cc can be brought for 850 pounds is it any good?

If you want a sports bike, a 4 stroke and something which suits your height, then the CBR is definitely not the bike.

I'd go for a Hyosung GT125R, biggest 125 out there, very reliable, has the same body work and fairing of the 650 version.

I've been on one, and they are truly amazing bikes for there engine size.

I have a Hyosung XRX 125, which looks like a trails bike. I had a choice of the GT125R, the XRX, or a chinese AJS bike.

I'm 17 and i start college next month, i'm doing exactly what you're doing. Saving the yearly bus pass and riding to college.

Stick with a 4 stroke though, for a daily 12 mile journey, a 4 stroke is perfect. Spend more money on 2 strokes.

You should be able to find one for about £1000

If not, a 12 mile commute is nothing, you may aswell get a Yamaha YBR or a Honda CG, both cheap bikes and very reliable.

You can find YBR's and CG's for £300 if you look around. They go on ebay for about £500.

Yeah i think the CBR is an awful bike for a tall person. I'm 6ft, and when i sat on one it felt horrible.

The GT125 is basically the same bike as the GT125R just naked without any fairing.

I would say the bikes you should look out for are:

Cheap Price Range
Honda CG125
Yamaha YBR125
Suzuki EN125
Honda CBF125

Bit More Expensive
Hyosung GT125R
Hyosung GT125
Honda Varadero 125

I'm not really sure of any more decent 125's. These are all 4 stroke, and as far as i no are all reliable bikes. I no people who are very happy with all these bikes, except the CBF125.

From what I know 4 strokes are cheaper to run and the engine itself last for longer.

Never heard of the Sachs XTC myself, but i just googled it, a highly rated bike in reviews, so sounds good

What country is it from do you no?

Good choice getting a 4 stroke, and one last question...

Did you get the naked or the faired version?

I see it has a "Suzuki" engine...

Since your not doing your CBT til the 12th next month, if you have a big drive or garden, maybe you can practice a bit on it. Even just shifting a few gears. get you used to the feel of the bike.

Hope your leg gets better soon anyway mate, and when you get it, take some pics, and once you've past your CBT, get some videos

Did you buy it brand new or secondhand?

If it's new then you could start breaking it in when you get it i guess, start the engine everyday and give it some revs.
