Don't know about everyone else but I can't help speeding up whenever I see one.

Makes them somewhat counter-productive because they make me go faster than I normally would have.

Went past one at the weekend which was showing a smiley white face and solid green lights because the car in front was doing 25mph. Had to drop back to about 15mph then give it a bit of a handful to get it to pop up over 30 in the space between him passing the thing and me getting there.

I was rewarded by an angry orange face and a flashing red light along with tutting from some OAPs sat on a nearby park bench, audiable even over the roar of the engine and with earplugs in. I suspect I may be top of the agenda at the next parish council meeting.

I love the ones that need reset or something.

They flash "88" "88" "88".

I always shout "1.21 GIGAWATTS!!!" when I pass them on the bike.

Me too. There's a couple on my route to work that actually give you a speed rather than smiley/angry face, though I've heard reports of councils taking them away as boy racers have been having accidents seeing who can clock the fastest speed through them.

I went through one at 45 in a 30 limit and couldn't help but ask myself what would happen to the 2 digit display if i went through at tripple figure speeds. Turns out they just display --
I'm certain i'm not the first person to try this, and definatly won't be the last.

I think the ones in a 30 only go up to 50 or so to stop people using them to clock high speeds. That's also why you don't get them in 60 limits any more as far as I know.

Same round here. Some you can trigger when doing under the speed limit on an accurate GPS unit.

All the best

There's one near my house that says "police may be informed" when you speed past it. Laughing

That's probably because you were only doing 48 mph Laughing

If you had really been doing 55 it just would have not registered, it wouldn't deliberately underestimate your speed.

They are a little annoying, but the pensioners with a speed gun down the road from me are far more frustrating!

A few years back I was on the KTM doing 35 in a 30, the old tosser pointed the gun at me and was greeted by a thunderous wheelie! The look of horror was priceless as well as the fact he was not aware bikes don't have a forward facing REG. Laughing

I've never seen any of the ones with smilies or displayed speeds, down here they just flash the speed limit at you. What makes me laugh is 2 weeks ago they put one nearby on a ridiculously tight bend in a 40 zone, where your average car would be doing about 20. It's gone as of friday, I guess they realised the numbers of people who would trip it you could count on your hand..

The way I see it if I don't light them up it's a waste of tax payers money getting them installed there. No point in them sitting there doing nothing. Thumbs Up

I'd rather they wasted their money on them, rather than wasting them on speed cameras.

Whenever I ("don't" -Legal Ed.) exceed 88mph I always tell the missus to switch on the flux capacitor.

I've never seen a 'smilie' sign but yeah, you can imagine the sort of mentality that wants to just see how high they can make it go.

I find them annoying as I cruise through areas like that at 30mph on the nose just in case there's a particularly vindictive copper hiding nearby and then get told I'm actually doing 27.

The ones local to me display the speed in green if your under and red if your over and they definitely will give you a reading over 50mph. They don't always register when I'm on the bike though.

There is one in a town called eastwood, in a 30 zone. When you pass it at 100+ mph, it sticks at 99mph and flashes thank you.

The police have to come and reset it.

I only know this beacause others have done it. Not me. Honest.

I've seen a few on my travels.

Always slowed down for them as I thought they were linked to a police car or camera further on.
